So I installed Continental Terrain Contact H/T in 265/65 R17 to replace the stock Hankook Dynapro ATMs. In part this was a planned replacement as I was going to do so before winter as the dynapros weren't confidence inspiring in the limited snow I encountered soon after buying the Ranger. In part it was also due to a sidewall getting shredded in a pothole.

I've had the Contis on for about a month and approx 500 miles. Fuel mileage is comparable and possibly slightly better than the dynapros. Avg of 19.5 on the dynasty, and the full tank on the Contis was 20.1 (both hand calculated) and the adjusted computer is saying this tank should be around 20.3.

On the road the Contis at 30 psi are more compliant than the dynas at the same pressure. Expansion cracks and tar sealed cracks are less noticeable. The contis have a higher pitched whistle on rain grooved concrete vs the lower atm rumble/growl I always had with the dynapros. On smooth asphalt I don't hear the Contis at all. Speaking of rain grooves the contis seem less prone to track with them than the dynapros did.

Discount Tires is who I purchased from and they did have an issue trying to balance one tire, going so far as to say it was defective and they needed to order another. I convinced them to try spinning it 180 degrees and rebalance and that resulted in the only wheel that didn't need weights. Rather lackluster balancing of the rims on Ford's part it seems. I've got two others I might take back and have them try the same as the weight strip they put on seems excessive. That said I don't have any noticeable balance related vibration or wheel roundness issues.

Out of all the tires I have installed while working automotive I can say that the Continental and General tires seem to give the most trouble when balancing. As for the tire that didn't need any weights? Yeah I would recommend taking it back in after 5,000 miles to double check.

Agreed, it’s almost impossible that a tire and wheel would perfectly balance without weights.

It is a rare case but I have seen it myself on many tires. Doesn't mean it won't go out of balance later

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to earn your business on the new Terrain Contact H/T tires, @taralon; though I'm sorry to learn there was a snag along the way with balancing. As you mentioned, rotating the tire on the wheel then balancing can result in a reduction in weight.

If you need any support from our end here on the forum, please don't hesitate to shoot us a DM.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but any long-term updates on the Continental Terrain Contact H/T ?

Any continued balance issues?

I'm looking at replacing my factory tires and these were some of the highest rated in consumer reports.

Thanks,
