DeeZee makes a nice permanent mount step for the drivers side. Custom fit and uses 2 bolts from the bumper support. Nice quality, steel and aluminum. Bought mine a year ago and use it everytime I get into the bed. But price has gone up since I bought it...now around $90.00.

Trying to search and couldn't get the results looking for.
Has anyone ever install these retractable rear step on thier Ranger?
After installing my bed Tonneau cover and realizing how high my truck is getting in/out of the bed even with the tailgate down, decide I will get one of these eventually.
My truck has the OEM hitch recieer and not sure if this will effect fitment.
Can anyone direct me to a thread if there was one that have ever installed these?

I wish I had one on each side of the bed in front of the tire. Seen em for F150 that retract and use oem holes in the frame.

I installed one on each side of a F250 I had. It worked great. Here's the Bestop one for the Ranger.

Bestop Step
I also installed the Bestop one. Expensive but looks more rugged and larger than the $99 one plus it retracts when pushed up slightly.

Are the two mounting holes pre-drilled in the bumper support?

I've had and been using the Dee Zee step now for a year and a half. It is very rugged, steel with an aluminum step plate. No, it dosen't fold...it's permanent, but does not "protrude" and I have yet to hit my legs on it.
Have used it hundreds of times now without a problem....rock solid/no flex.
Nothing against the Best Stop Step, but $90 vs $300.

Yes...the Dee Zee mounting plate, part of the entire steel support, has pre drilled holes that match up perfectly with two of the three bumper mount supports. Simple matter of unbolting 2 of the bolts, aligning the Dee Zee Step, and run the bolts back up into frame. Takes all of 10 minutes to install.

Steve,
1. Does this step work when the tailgate is both open and closed?
2. What size socket do the bolts take? Regular or deep socket?
3. Any issues installing on a truck with a Ford factory installed receiver hitch?

Thanks.

Yes, works with tailgate up or down.
Don't need a deep socket, standard will do with an extension, either 21 mm or 13/16 will work, but your going to need a proper 1/2 inch drive, preferably an impact rated socket...those bolts are TIGHT. I have a 1/2 inch Kobalt impact driver, so it was easy for me. If you don't have one, a good breaker bar will do it.
Mine is installed with the factory hitch.
If you look at the bumper mount/hitch mount, you'll see 3 bolts holding the mount to the frame. Only the two rear bolts come out, step goes in place and re-bolt. The nuts are captive/welded to the frame, so only the bolts come out. When the 2 bolts come out, nothing falls or moves out of place...the third bolt that you don't take out holds everything tight.
Really, with my impact wrench it took me less than 10 minutes to install....

I need one but don't like the way any of them look , and my OCD requires one on each side , I may lay under there and see if I can come up with something I like better ... A buddy at work just bought a new Tundra , when you drop the tailgate, a retractable step automatically drops down , that is sweet ! 70 grand though...
