Tailgate cables

So I’m looking for shorter tailgate cables. My tailgate touches the top of my bike rack but just. Maybe an inch shorter would make it clear. Any ideas?

I thought about the rubber bumper but it’s on a pivot point. Was kinda hoping someone had run into this same problem and had a proven solution. The rack pretty much stays on the truck full time because I’m hauling bikes several times a week.

Anybody know the standard measuring points for the cables?
