Switched 12v socket?

Are either of the 12v lighter sockets switched? Does anyone know the timing on them? I am trying to run a dash cam off one but don't want to drain the battery. It's a vantrue camera. I was going to hard wire it but the wiring kit i bought doesn't seem to be compatible. Trying to run it plugged in for the time being until I can figure out the right kit.

Yes they’re timed. 2 hrs IIRC. Those of us that have cameras ether wire them into fuse box or use the OBD connector for power when the truck is off. Personally I used the https://www.blackboxmycar.com/pages...0q2pU1WHxDILab_g4CzLCeoHKjgck3yY24CLQ=.RmjQ66

They have the OBD connection that keeps camera alive to a certain battery voltage and then shuts the camera down if it goes below that battery threshold.

I hardwired it with a vioso cable thinking it would work since they're both usb-c. I liked that over the vantrue one because you can set a higher cutoff voltage. Then I found they're not compatible for some reason. Camera wouldn't turn on at all regardless of truck on or off. Used fuse 30 and 37 and the same ground point I've seen others use.

The 12v lighter sockets are switched. It's about 2 hours I run my dash camera from them. and never had a problem.

I just installed a Vantrue E2 in my Ranger this week. The Vantrue hardwire kit is compatible (if that's the one you bought). Use the Micro2 add-a-fuse in fuse 37 behind the panel under the steering column.

I removed the driver side cigarette lighter plug when I installed the TBC knob there. Tied into those wires to run back to a BlackVue battery, and the camera into that. 24/7 recording as long as I drive the truck every 2 days.
