Super cab rear door alignment issue

I had an issue on my 2022 lariat that I wasn't closing the door firmly enough and I'll be driving along and get a message saying the door was ajar.
For the very first oil change, I asked them to look at it, and they came back and said door was correct.
it happened again about two weeks later, but since then I simply have been a little firmer on it and it never happened again.
weird it never rattle never felt loose, but light versus firm closing trips a sensor somewhere

Yes, I’ve had the same issue. The door seems like it’s closed but it isn’t unless it’s closed firmly or slammed. It all depends on how well it was aligned. I’m going to have to try and align it myself.

Me too, I was having the same problem for a while. I just learned to shut the door more firmly and the problem went away. Best I could tell there's no alignment issue. I also learned (the hard way) to duck when accessing the back seat so I don't bang my head on the latching mechanism :crazy:.

For what it's worth, if I shut mine slowly and gently, it makes contact at the bottom first before the top touches the striker, then 2 clicks, slight adjustments on the hinges is about your only play...

Mine looks fine from the outside. My approach was going to be more adjusting the sensor that I could never find.
mine looks fine from the outside as well when firmly closed. The sensor should be fine, it's doing its job by detecting that the door is not fully closed. I would say you’re having the same issue as mine except your door is a little better adjusted than mine. I will look at the door hinge adjustment and let you know how I make out. I may get to it on the weekend .

Look at both strikers and see if the paint is worn uneven, mine is super easy , barely touch it and it latches...

The uppers strike has a plastic cover that’s says “airbag”, so I’m a little hesitant to remove the cover to investigate.

@airline tech needs to check my work but in this scenario I would simply disconnect the battery before I remove the cover and fiddle around for peace of mind.

Yes, did looked at that. The bottom is slightly scraped along the top right side, the top is scraped dead centre which should be normal. There is no way to adjust the bottom as the screws self centre. The top striker hasn’t been investigated yet as there’s a black cover over it that say airbag. I’m hesitant to mess around with it. I think my next step is to try the door hinge adjustment. The door is definitely not meeting the top and bottom strikers at the same time. Door meets the Bottom striker first as there a gap at the top most likely due to the door hinge out of adjustment.

When mine comes in contact with the bottom, as soon as I feel it, I can look at the top and it's maybe 1/4 in away from touching, sometimes I have got lucky by just loosing the hinge just a little, then slightly slam it and hope things jump into place, then retighten, body shop will most likely wait until you leave then jam a 2x4 in there and push on it till it bends in place...

my brothers a licensed body man and has worked at the Chrysler plant in Brampton for many years in metal finishing. He also suggested using the 2x4 at the bottom of the door and try to bend it at the top. But I think we will attempt to loosen the hinges first and see if it will adjust. Do you work for a car manufacturer?

I've been dealing with this for almost 5 years. It happened 3 times in my first year. After that, I just got used to giving it a gentle push at the top to be sure it latched.
Now since you started this thread, I thought I'd try something simple. I went out to the garage and gave it an open and closing 3 times with gentle closing effort. Failed to latch at the top on one try.
So then I noticed the resistance the door check was causing and thought a little lube of WD40 just might do it. I also gave the hinge points a lube. They seemed dry.
Now, with a gentle close, after the first detent of door check, just the weight of the door closes itself properly half a dozen times.
I always liked that KISS method.

I wish it was just a matter of lube. I tried lubing the latches but no luck. The door is definitely not aligned top to bottom or parallel from top to bottom. The bottom is closer to vehicle frame opening compared to the top .
