I am looking at buying the new Boundry roll bar to my '23 Tremor with the BAK Revolver X4s. Because I also want to put dirt bikes on the roll bar, I was wondering if I would need to reinforce the bed rails, and if so, how I would go about this. Thanks for the help.

Others have asked this same questioned here but the threads I’ve seen didn’t produce any answers.

The dynamic load of two bikes could be quite high. Ideally, you would need to carry the load to the frame rails, whether you modify the chase rack or add supports below the rails.

I guess a trailer is out of the question for you?

I can take a trailer, but it is not ideal, and I want a roll bar anyway. The bed rails may be strong enough with the metal at a 45Âş angle connecting the bed rail to the wall of the bed. I'm not sure though. I will get back to you when I figure out what I'm doing.

Keep in mind your bed walls are only strong (load rated) where there are tie down positions (600 lbs IIRC). Otherwise, they are tin foil. Another member mounted a hi-lift jack to the wall of the bed with disastrous results.

That said, the majority of the force would be on the rear tires of your bikes, which would be on the bed floor rather than your chase rack. It’s really a tough call as to whether or not you need any additional support. You’re here because you don’t want to find out the hard way but you might want to also check with a top off-road shop in your area to find out if they do anything special for chase racks on pre-runners.

Hey crew, Sterling from Boundry here, someone pointed this forum out to us so thought I'd help out and add our two cents. The rack displaces the force of having 2 motos across a wide portion of the bed so no issues with beds being compromised. We've done some significant testing at forces much higher than anything you'll see with it in the wild and there has been 0 issues of bed failure or even bed flex for that matter.

Hopefully that helps!

The rear tires in the pics below from this instagram account made me laugh.
Interesting Rack and comments about it as well.

Shoot! Responding to the question from JustAwkward about if the rails on his Ranger are strong enough to handle the weight of 2 dirt bikes on the Boundry rack. New to this forum, sorry about that!

No worry...to answer your question...here's something to think about...

My Diamondback folding bed cover SE version supports 400lbs...the HD can carry 1,200 lbs and carry an ATV...all this is sitting on top of the bed rails...

Thanks for the information everyone. I am still considering the Boundry rack and am growing less concerned about the weight. That being said, I have the Bak Revolver X4s, which makes it significantly harder to install because of the lower cross beam as can be seen in their instructions. I am going to call them about some of this stuff before I order the rack. I will be sure to update once I have made decisions about how to mount it if I do.

After a great deal of thinking, I have decided not to go with the Boundry chase rack for a few reasons. First, I am worried about the weight from 2 dirt bikes on the bed rails. While I think it would hold up, I would rather play it safe. Furthermore, I am able to fit 2 dirt bikes in the bed, albeit with the tailgate down. Lastly, the cross bar in the bed would be extra tricky to install with the Bak Tonneau cover.

I have decided instead to go with the Black Horse Armour II Roll Bar with Basket. I will update again with installation details. I am hoping to install it tomorrow.

The roll bar is sold as a direct fit to the Ranger. It does fit, however, the clamp which keeps it secure is at an angle. This does seem to hold anyways. The tonneau cover rails need to be drilled in order to be able to sit "flush" with the bed rails. I use quotes for flush because the rails need to be pulled out of being straight because of how the roll bar mounts. Overall, I am very happy with how it came out and will be back tomorrow with pictures.

Also, my new build thread.
