Hi everyone, what is the offset on the 17" stock wheel (fx4)? I know it's been mentioned a few times just can't find it. The reason is that I'm going for a leveling kit, I want no rake! I won't be towing or heavy loads. I would like slightly larger tires but I do not want them to stick out past the wheel well i just don't care for that look. Of course no rubbing on anything at anytime. I don't want to cut, chop or delete anything that the factory installed. Thus my need for a factory size rim. My Ranger is still 3 months away so i have time. It seems that most on this forum have a variety of lifts/levels on their trucks all of which look incredible. Just trying to find mine and budget accordingly. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Agreed on +55 for the magnetic 17s. I’m looking for similar setup as you - no trimming, no crash bar deletes/swaps, maintain FX4 suspension, add bigger tires on stock rim.

Two viable options from my (OCD) research:
1) 2.5” level kit, 285/70R17 tires with a 1/4” spacer on front wheels. About 1” past wheel well, about 4.5” taller up front, 2” taller on the bed.

2) 265/70R17 with no spacers nor leveling required. Flush with wheel wells. About 1” taller all-around.

275/70R17 don’t generally exist. 255/80R17 cost about as much as 285s. Nittos = mid-performance, cost effective. BFG KO2 = gold standard. Toyo or General grabbers = dark horse.
Hope this helps!

So if I stick with the stock 17's,(can't find rims I like but need bigger tires, sick of turning around) I only need a 1/4" spacer for 285/70 BFG KO2's? It's got the RC 3 1/2" lift. Good Year is telling me it will rub inside against the knuckle.

Hello! I'm swapping my stock 18" FX4 Lariat wheels for the KMC Canyon 17x8" with a +20mm offset. I was going to put 265/70/R17 Grabber AT/X tires on them, but they're sold out (along with basically everything else). :frown:

Without major modifications, will a 275/70/R17 all-terrain tire fit on the FX4? And/or what modifications would be needed?

As mentioned, +55 is the stock wheel offset. I've been looking at rim/wheel combos and what I've read boils down to 265/70/17 and a 17" rim with +25 offset should not rub or poke out too much. Some have gone to as low as +18 offset without rubbing, but some do so your milage may vary.

I'm no tire expert, but if you get 285s you'll need the wheel to push out further or it'll rub on the knuckle, but by pushing it out then you might rub on the crash bars. I'm not sure if 285s can be fit without rubbing something, but I could be wrong. I believe 275/70/17 should fit without modification, but not all tires are available in that size. On a wheel with +20 offset that might be pushing it close to the crash bars. Assuming with a 2.5" level, that is.

I spent months looking at wheel/tire combinations for my 2020 FX4 and had a very specific list of "wants" based on my other truck builds.

I wanted a slightly taller tire than stock but also did not want to cut, chop or delete anything installed from the factory. (i.e crash bars, fenders, etc.) I was also not interested in the fitment of wheel spacers to accommodate a larger tire. I wanted to retain good fuel economy and range and I didn't want wider than fender tire poke for both aesthetic reasons and to minimize slinging rock and debris down the side of my truck. Tire weight was also an important criteria in my search. Most C or D rated tires would be more than ample for the Ranger's payload but there are very few choices and a great many more E rated tire options from most major brands. I was hoping to find something in the mid forty pound class but most newer Hybrid tire designs are more than 50 lbs per tire. By contrast, the stock Hanook Dynapro ATM on our XL and XLT trucks is 39 lbs. (but only an SL / 112 speed rated tire)
Mud-terrains look cool but are too aggressive. IMO All-terrain tires function better on gravel and washboard roads in Baja where I spend most of my off-highway time at 18-20 PSI. For lower air pressure on the beach (12-15 PSI) I also prefer more sidewall height in relation to overall tire height. In the past I have run the Cooper AT3's, BFG KO's, General ATx and Toyo AT's but was open to others. I also like a tire that is quiet on the highway but has great off road manners because I spend a good amount of time on the pavement "getting to" my off road destinations.

After a lot of research, components were ordered and the last of my parts finally arrived last week. I now have everything installed.

In consideration of current ride height...I have an APG mid-runner suspension with King extended travel shocks at all four corners and a rear Deaver progressive leaf spring pack. This set-up levels the front end (2.75") and retains stock rear bed height.

To achieve all my "wants" I swapped out the 17" stock FX4 wheels for 16 x 7" EvoCorse Dakar wheels with a +20 offset. These are mounted to a set of LT235/85/R16 Falken Rubitrek A/Ts.
The EVO's provide enough backspace to fit the suspension upgrades and the tire sits exactly flush to the fender well. Of course, there's no rubbing at full articulation and/or turning which was paramount. At 31.8" tall by 9.3" wide it's a little taller but narrower than a 265/70/17. The sidewall is also taller. The Rubitreks weigh 46 lbs. and I'm anxious to give the Falkens a try.

Although this tire size and rim combo is a bit obscure I feel it fits my needs perfect and might be a consideration for other members.

Hey Noelle, as @Aaron77 said, the 275/70R17s with a +20mm offset will clear the knuckle but will be close to the anti-intrusion beams. Assuming a level/lift of 2.5”.

I have +15mm offset wheels and 275/70R17s and installed them when I had a 2-1/2” level - it was close to rubbing but I loosened the crash bars and angled them out of the way. It offered some more room but it was still tight. I swapped in a set of ReadyLIFT anti-intrusion beams just to be safe and I’ve recently installed Fox struts (set at 2”). Everything is fine but I likely would have rubbed at full lock with the 2” struts and OEM crash bars.

Good luck!
