I need to partially remove the trim shroud on the top of the steering column, between the steering wheel and the instrument panel, so I can install the optional LED sensor accompanying the perimeter plus security system. I've searched high and low, including within the 501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation document and haven't found any instructions on how to do it. I suspect it just has the standard retainer clips but I don't want to break anything.

Can someone point me to a DIY for this operation?

it looks almost like the top shroud is sandwiched up there with the steering column?

removing the steering column it is still in place. as per the attached drawing...

can you access what you need from the bottom? with only the bottom panels removed?
Possibly; however, I suspect the upper shroud removal is a simple procedure. In older model years once the lower shroud was removed by loosening its mounting screws, the upper half just popped off. I'm just looking for confirmation to avoid breaking any tabs.

Well the IPC bezel and the vinyl cover piece are attached together, so you may have to remove those 2 first to get access to the steering column shroud since the vinyl cover snaps into the top of the shroud.
I had to remove my cluster once to buff the lens out from dried up 303 Protectant splatter and I remember those 2 pieces being attached together.

For what he is doing that's over kill.
  1. Open the Fuse door/lower dash
  2. remove 3 screws from bottom of steering column cover
  3. the upper and lower halves will easily come apart
  4. flip the upper fwd and rest against the dash
If you need more access do as Jay said. To do that:
  1. Remove both AC vents
  2. see 2 (or 4!?) screws holding the cluster bezel in place
  3. remove bezel by sliding the top lid rearward to clear the clips (they don't really snap in place)
  4. Remove the bezel and upper steering column cover as 1 piece

I suspected this was the correct path but wasn't certain. Thanks for the confirmation, much appreciated.
