It's GM but seem all manufacturers are the same. Planned obsolescence.

This engineer is telling the absolute truth. Minimal to no Maintenance schedule, and cheap lows quality parts. I see this everywhere in my 2020 Ranger. And to a lessor degree in my 2023 Mazda CX-5.

Interesting when the topic of temps came up... I agree with him in this area...

Recommended Temps
Engine Coolant Temp - 180F
Transmission Temp - 160F-170F (I 'd be happy with 180F)
Oil temp - 212F then down to 180F-190F

I'm keeping my 2005 Ranger long term.

I don't know if there's any truth the rumor that our Ranger's have GM transmissions in them.
(That's 50% question and 50% statement lol)
The 10 speed automatic is a joint venture between Ford and GM.

They each have their own version of the same transmission.

Unfortunately, it's the way of the world. What started out as "why build something to last forever, when the consumer will replace it in 5 years anyway" turned into "why build something to last for 5 years when we can get the consumer to buy a replacement". That sounds and works for electronics like phones, computers, and TVs, but shouldn't be with cars and appliances. Yet, here we are with our disposable economy.

If it is a 2005 you have done good

As for engine temps even unloaded I never see 180 Trans tems stay around 190 to 197 unloaded I have not monitored oil temps but I suspect they run around the same as the coolant temps that stay in the low 200s unloaded.

Those recommended temps were for all modern vehicles including the 5G Rangers.... anything higher is for EPA standards and damages drive train components. I've read the same thing from multiple engineering sources prior to this video stating it.

I am keeping my 2005 simply because it is built to last vs modern vehicles that are built to last through the warranty period.

That video just confirms what we've all thought, believed and/or discovered for ourselves while working on our vehicles. My last, personal, GM vehicle was a '70 Chevelle. Great car, what I believe was the last good GM product. I'll never buy another. My wife's uncle gave her an '80 Buick Skylark when we were first married. What a piece of shit. I had to unbolt motor mounts on the transversly mounted V6 so I could rotate the engine forward just to reach the rear spark plugs up against the firewall. I won't bore you with the myriad other bean-counter mandated shortcomings.
I had a 2009 Buck Lucerne company car that broke it's motor mounts, ate sparkplugs, lunched 2 transmissions and had insufferable dashboard rattles.

Say what you will about Ford, I owned an '88 5.0 Mustang, '97 Explorer, 3 Econoline 150 service vans, 2016 & 2018 Fusion hybrids and an F-150: all were trouble-free. Really.

The engineer in the video stated that the BIG 3 started going south in 2008 and the process to cheapen components and extend service intervals had dramatically speed up since.... He stated the Big 3 didn't make $$ from repairs, dealers did, and that they didn't make a load of profit from selling the vehicles... the real profit was in the financing. They want people to lease and flip autos every 2-3 years... "disposable, and built to last that long".

He also mentioned several times that Next Gen Drivetrain was on the right track, and were building exactly what Ford Engineers were trying to build, but were overruled by the "bean counters".
