Hi All,

I recently took delivery of a Ranger Raptor, after about 40 miles from collection, I saw clear smoke coming from the wheel arches on both sides, when I checked it looked like its coming from the left of the rubber rocker cover assuming you have just opened the bonnet and are stood looking at it. There is a smell in the smoke, almost like oil or brake fluid... so Im thinking it could be a breather pipe or PCV valve or something similar. After a few minutes it disappears again. It may be me but I feel the engine increases idle during that time.

The car has only got 240 miles on the clock and its done it three times, the smell enters the cockpit quickly and isnt a pleasant experience for anyone!

Any helpful comments appreciated.

I would definitely take it back to the dealer. It could just be manufacturing oils/etc burning off still, but it could be something far worse as well (vacuum leak or even a fluid leak onto the exhaust).

Hi Asif,

Not many folks here can speak of issues related to the Rest of the World Ranger with the diesel engine. Our North American Rangers are all petrol engines. Hopefully some of the other UK, Australia, Philippines folks can help you. I do agree that this needs to be take back to the dealer for diagnosis...something is clearly wrong.

Good luck! Sorry we cannot be of more help on your powertrain.

Best,

Definitely take it back, my Raptor made no smoke etc at all. Yeah it smelled a bit, but no smoke (all new cars make some funky smells for the first few hundred km).

My friends f150 smoked similar to that , he needed to have the turbo oil lines replaced since they were leaking.

Hi all, thanks for the responses. It was the DPF, it’s face was distorted and wouldn’t sit flush against the turbo gasket. Got it back now and seems ok. But only had it two days so hopefully continue to be this way. Here are the pictures of the replaced DPF. Thanks again, really appreciate it.

Hey Mate,

That's interesting! Do they think it was a manufacturing flaw? Also, do you have AdBlue also?

They said it could have been, but they weren't sure, I am sure I have ad blue as if it was low I think it tells you on the screen, hope I've understood your question correctly.

It would need to get rather hot to cause the plate to warp, so I would guess it was.

Oh I meant does the Raptor have AdBlue where you are, but you answered my question anyway. We don't in Australia (DPF only), commercial vehicles are in a different emissions category but the Everest does have AdBlue.

Aah, makes sense... definitely has ad blue. I think it was a manufacturing fault or they did a recall before I collected the car, something to do with the ‘check transmission pump’ recall... not sure if they needed to remove for that but could have damaged it then if they did.

Sorry, I know this is an older post, but recently took receipt of my raptor, and came off a motorway, onto a country lane with some bigger puddles, and had a similar smoke come from the wheels after breaking for a turning. I put it down to motorway hot brakes "curing", I'm aware new breaks will cure with heat. I haven't seen the issue since. Is there something I can check to see if I have a similar issue?
