I'm not into fancy wheels BUT I am into "It's your truck and your money".

What airline tec said makes the most sense (plus his considerable amount of real experience). I use a pneumatic impact wrench at home and I can easily see what he said happening. It spins fast, has decent weight to it, takes a moment to stop, and if it even popped off of that lug, the weight of it would bring it to that location and the last rotations would make it hop around to make erratic scratches like that.

And this could happen to anyone because most simply don't care. =(

As others have said, let them know that this was clearly done at that time and you just want them to be aware that it leads to disgruntled customers. And take pics of each rim the next time and inspect them before you leave the dealer (I did mark mine with a sharpie to see if they rotated them on the first time, but now just do my own rotations because I'm an old fart who likes to play with air tools). =p

The touch-up paint is the easiest route to go and I think I've seen them on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/ford-j7-touch-up-paint/s?k=ford+j7+touch+up+paint

Good luck! =)

You may want to double check your door sticker for your paint code:

We never had these problems when using the 10mm size...

I can understand being rushed, but there is absolutely no excuse for being sloppy. I used to bust tires for a living and in my day I would have been fired for this. My boss's philosophy was that customers paid for service, not damage. Hopefully, this can be repaired.

I'd personally try to remain calm. Give them a call, see what, if anything, they can do.

If they won't do anything then know they can likely be repaired for a hundo, hundo and a half. Or you can contact your Internet friends with a full set of sport wheels who can sell and ship just one for a fellow Internet friend.

Let me know, I'm that Internet friend.
There is wheel repair out there that work on restoring and repair wheels rather than replace . Maybe check with a tire shop or the internet.

And I was just praising my dealer. About 2k miles ago I had the truck in for new tires and oil change. Today I was washing it and noticed these fairly deep scratches on one of the wheels. One pic is with my hand behind it because the phone was having a hard time focusing.
I remember when I got the truck back, there was thick white crap all around the edges of all wheels. I assume it was the junk they use to lube the tire to help it onto the rim. It easily cleaned off. Then I find this. It's hard to see unless you look closely. But now that I know it's there, I am a little pissed. A slip of the air wrench?
I hate to mention the technician was a girl.

I dunno..

My wheels are pretty much paintless, but I do drive on gravel roads, forest & clay farm. But I don't have scratch inside the wheel well as you do.

Most likely I'd be pissed for that.

I am sort of pissed I didn't notice it sooner. But I know that they are the only people who have worked on my Ranger. And I don't have air tools. Which makes me wonder, are air tools still the tool of choice with the great battery powered options available these days?

This is the damage you get for real work. Do notice that it's nothing like yours, just scratches and wear on those over the rim parts. I just can't imagine what has caused those dents outside of banging with hammer or some other tool.

Man, that sucks. I 'usually' walk around the truck after service &
check the oil level, just a little paranoid. I still like to wrench on easy stuff but once in a while, I f%#k up too.

BTW - one of the main reasons the Ford 2-piece lug nuts swell to the point where you have to pound your socket on is because they're (typically) overtightened with air wrenches. Good luck finding out in the middle of the night that your oem lung wrench/tire iron doesn't even come close to fitting when you're on that trek from Duckwater to Fernley.

Don't ask.

You know, even if I did a walk around, I am not sure I would have noticed. I was on the ground touching up my rusty running board mounts when I happened to look over and see this. Hell, I didn't even notice when I was cleaning off the white goop.

Normal gravel, mud, road wear. I do drive 50% on gravel, 25% in forest/mud and 25% on asphalt. So the exposed sides are in constant "sanding paper" and kind of yell "Change the rim design" to Ford.

I guess a bottle of touch up paint is out of the question, eh?
