Thanks. As a recent identity theft victim a "heads up" is always welcome.
Good news on the ID theft. the account was removed from my credit report and the $20,000 in purchases are not my responsibility.

As someone who grew up using the internet... I find it crazy that people can be duped online by these fake profiles. For the most part they're super obvious OR only take a minute of digging to realize it's a scammer.

It's kinda like some country bumpkin from a town of 437 people moving to NYC... no street smarts... not gonna have a good time lol.

Some scams are really obvious, misspellings, bad grammar syntax etc. However, some are super slick and could easily fool a casual user.
I was a victim of a hack at a major bank (Citi). I got notified of suspicious activity outside my normal habits. New account in Florida, I live in Cali., and $20,000 purchased as soon as the account was approved. this was not the only attempt using my info. The problem will continue for another month as the info is sold to others.
My wife was also a victim of the same hack but the thief was not able to activate any new accounts because of a small but important detail in her hyphenated last name.
