If I'm not mistaken, I think you can remote start your XLT throught the Ford pass App if you dont have a factory remote start.

Correct, as long as you have CONNECTED SERVICES active, and your data on your phone is live.

YES
you do NOT need a new fob. Works by (lock-unlock-lock).
Only If you want longer range do you need other fob.

To get remote start from fob i had to add the below module. recommend ordering and purchase install from https://accessories.ford.com/electronics/vehicle-security/electronic-module-12157.html and have it sent to your dealership for install.

By purchasing install ($58 in my area) saved a lot of $$ since the dealership didn't have experience with the install and would have charge 3 hours it took them.

Bonus: includes a 2-stage shock sensor.

NOTE: my work doesn't allow cell phones so ford pass was not an option. Now i can start my truck on the way out and climate control will be heating/cooling
