My first car back in '93 had one of these! Remember driving from Las Vegas to Alaska when I was 7 listening to music one one also. We had the adapter that you could put a cassette tape in so you could listen to cassette tapes.

growing up we had a collection of 8 tracks about six feet high. great music on all of them. Eagles, doors, neil diamond, doobie brothers, willie nelson, peter frampton and many more. to think we boxed them up and now they are likely in the landfill. :frown:

I put one in my 1964 Chevrolet with 2 big amplifiers and 8 speakers. We used to get buzzed and blast Yes, Deep Purple, Bowie, Tull, and any tapes we could find. I finally bought a Channel Master 8 track recorder to copy my records. Probably why I am half deaf now.

The first cars I bought (used) had radios (AM only) that had tubes. After starting the car and turning on the radio, you had to wait a short time before the radio made noise.

My first one was exactly like the one below. I had a stack of 8 tracks (most from may dad who got them from the guys at work) but my 2 favorites were Aerosmith and Boston. Growing up in MA they were the hometown kings of rock! It was portable and I'd bring it to the beach and thought we were so cool with it.?

Boston actually did a concert at my high school in their early days. They were awesome. We had a nearby coffeehouse that Harry Chapin, Pete Seger, and Don McLain used to play at. For like a $2 cover charge we could enjoy their music.

My first concert ever was Boston and the back up band was Sammy Hagar. o_O He was still not all that well known back then but he rocked the Civic Center that night. I always liked him solo but never cared for Van Hagar, I love the original VH!

I still have a few old concert ticket stubs and can't believe it was only $8.00 for the shows back then. I hate seeing all these old bands trying to make a comeback now (reunion tours) and seeing what they're charging is just crazy.

My first car, and a couple after that one too, needed an FM converter.
Could have used A/C too, but I couldn't afford to add it

And Blue Dots for the taillights real glass too, fuzzy dice, steering wheel knob's, cat or dog animals with light up eyes that hooked into the taillights, baby moons, Richard Petty's STP.....

Exactly my first concert at Alfred State University in 77. Then few years later seen Hagar with Montrose in Rainbow Music Hall in Denver.

Anyone remember having outlets looking like this at Christmas time?

If I search hard enough I could probably find a couple of the 3 way adapters around.

Never seen a 45 player in a car before. We did have a crank up one with discs that were 1/4 inch thick. When I got older they were a good substitute for clay pigeons and much easier to hit ?.

They were kind of popular, but for the time expensive. They were even available as an option on some cars, I think Chrysler's and Dodge's.
J C Whitney and Honest Charlie had them and claimed you could play them while moving, but, wasn't a good idea as any bump would ruin the record. Had to play them while stationary.

I remember waiting for the free J C Whitney and Honest Charlie catalogs to arrive....both had thousands of parts and every gadget you could imagine in addition to speed parts. No phone orders, no credit cards....you had to fill out one of the enclosed order forms and mail it off, and you could enclose cash, check, or even get stuff by C.O.D.
When you went to your local auto parts store of speed shop, they had desk racks and binders full of catalogs you could look thru for parts. The measure of a good counter man was how fast he could locate the correct catalog and part for you.

I used to ride my bike to the post office and buy money orders to pay for things I ordered ?. Boys life had many adds that suckered me in.

Yup...I remember Boy's Life and the adds in the back of comics. Later when I got my first car, Whitney and Charlie became the "Gospel" along with Sears & Roebuck. And in the Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines...we would pour thru every add looking for new parts.
I grew up with George Barris, Gene Winfield, Dean Jefferies, Tommy Ivo, Don Garlits.
I remember seeing the Hemi Under Glass, the original Little Red Wagon, Tommy Ivo's 4 engine dragster. Went to Daytona for 5 or 6 straight years in the mid 60's...got to the infield early the day before and we slept in our cars or in sleeping bags next to them.
Had Rat Fink t-shirts signed by Big Daddy Roth....wore it till it fell apart.
Life was soooo good back then.
