Recent trade in values for Ranger?

Couldn't you pop down to OR and avoid sales tax altogether?

I believe WA state makes you pay the taxes when you register the vehicle. while I've never done it, there is a huge Dodge/GM dealer in Idaho that some of my friends have bought from. they said they still had to pay WA state tax but the dealer's out the door price still saved them a lot of money.

For many years Hawaii residents would work with new car brokers and take delivery of a new vehicle in Oregon, drive it 1K miles (not hard to do at all) on the mainland then ship it back to Hawaii.

Once the vehicle was landed, it was considered a used car (because of the 1K mies) and taxed at a considerably lower rate compared to new car tax rate.

This went on for years, I myself took advantage of this tax loophole many times.

Then in the mid 2000's or so the Hawaii state tax people wised up and now require that the vehicle be registered on the mainland for at least a year before being shipped to avoid the new car tax rate.

Thusly, the new car brokers vanished overnight, there were dozens of them...

Several used 5g Rangers available in my area, including the one I traded in early December. They aren't selling though. Quick check shows dealer's retail advertising price in the middle of kbb trade in value on the few that I checked.

If they advertising retail in kbb trade in range now, you know your trade in value is less than kbb trade in.

Rangers are hard to find here in Arizona or Texas. They are getting premium in my experience in my search for the last couple of months. They don’t last long when listed. But I do see the Lariats’s and trucks with more options selling quick. I have seen three rangers I passed on, sell within a few days. Location is key for the ranger, but in my markets, they are hard to find. I can’t find a new one anywhere. Every dealer I went to has said they are hot right now.

My 2022 Tremor that I traded in (with 477 miles on it) is still sitting on the dealers lot here in western South Dakota. I am surprised that it is still there since Dec. 14th 23.

Just checked the value on my '21 XLT 4WD Sport.
Disappointing ?
27K on Carmax and 26K on Carvana.
I was hoping for low 30's maybe.
Bummer.

I just tried my 21 xlt , $28800. That's disappointing also , only had 14000 miles, plus hasn't been driven since Nov. 2023... I counter offered 50 grand , it is a SuperCab , a part of history kinda...

CarGurus, however, found a local dealer offering over 31K for it, so that may well be a thing. I might ask for more, though, because my truck DOES have 6 tie downs AND an engine cover.

Carvana sends me offers on my '21 regularly. This week they offered $33k, but they think I have double the miles I actually have, which is 7,500. That's down from a high of $36k back in Sept '23.

Haven't checked mine, but it's a 2021 Lariat 2 WD, with all the bells n whistles, AND, an engine cover, 6 tie downs, rubber fender/hood bumpers, hood damps.
AND it is the coveted no longer available Scab......
