Hi,

First time poster and proud new owner of a 2019 XLT I just bought yesterday. I'm loving the truck so far. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for a ramp or folding steps that can make it easier for my dog to get in the crew cab. He's an 80 LB lab and it is kind of hard for him to get in and out right now due to the height. Plus he is getting older and I want something to make it easier for him as well as not risk injuring him when he jumps in and out.

I have looked at a few ramps and folding steps on Amazon but I'm not sure if they will fit due to the width of the ramp/steps. So if anyone has experience with this and products they would recommend I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

I've been considering getting the OEM running boards to help our dogs get in and out. They do fine now, but I expect they'll have trouble after a long tiring hike and especially once they get older. Do you not think that'll be enough for your dog?

Thank you for your reply. My concern is the height which is hard on their joints jumping up and down and when he gets even older he may not be able to get in and out at all that way. This is an additional concern as he ages if he develops hip problems or other joint issues or if for some reason he needs surgery on a joint or something. Running boards might help a bit but I think that would still be a bit difficult as they would not really give him a lot of room to plant his feet as he climbs up.

Of course I could always pick him up but he is a heavy dog and I'm looking for something that will be comfortable for us both as well as safe and easy for him.

As mentioned I've looked at a few solutions on Amazon like the following:

Folding ramp: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IAX85QU/
Folding steps: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WFLQSD9/

But I'm not sure if they will fit in the opening of the crew cab properly. Both of the above are about 16 inches wide. Some user reviews show images of them being used in a crew cab but I think they are larger trucks.

Might not be as good as a ramp.
But better than fixed step height.
