PDR recommendations?

They were Bridgestone. Unsure of the model right off the top of my head. It was still the original stock tires.




For sure! I haven't been in a lot of situations like this, but this is the first I was unable to recover.



Low tide. At high tide, I would have been in that.

You can't go wrong with BF Goodrich or Michelin LT tires. Great performance on wet roads.

I'm happy that the Ranger protected you and you are doing OK.
But the bad news is that PDR doesn't work on aluminum panels, so you'll need a new hood, tailgate, and possibly fenders.

Spoke with my claim rep today. She got assigned because she deals with total loss claims. Of course, they still have to move the truck from the tow yard and then inspect it themselves, but she's pretty confident it's done. Time to start shopping.

Just an update. Progressive has confirmed that the vehicle was moved to an inspection facility, but has not yet been inspected. Unfortunately for me, being separated from my wife, my name is on the loan for her 2020 Ranger and my 2021 Ranger, so I can't just go finance another vehicle until I get the total loss letter to take shopping with me.

I no longer need a truck, so am thinking of moving to the EB Mustang platform. We'll see how that goes.

And, this is what I'm looking at. It is in stock and recently arrived. Hopefully, it will still be available when I'm ready to purchase. As it gets closer to that time, I'll put down a deposit to hold it. They won't do it until the insurance decides for sure that the Ranger is a total loss.

Watch those roads folks. Even with traction control, shit happens.

Driving on the highway, hydroplaned, spun, was unable to recover, hit a palm tree, and went into the marsh, rolling a couple of times. Between airbags and seatbelts, my injuries are minor. The truck did an awesome job of keeping me safe.

thinking back to my lil smash up a few months ago it was also a losing control no getting it back situation. I wonder if the trucks systems vs. our reactions as drivers make things worse. Im not explaining this well lol. Traction control systems in fords works very well and has saved me from the ditch several times in the past. But the one time control was lost and the truck spun I tried to counter and brake etc. So maybe my human input was actually counter productive to the trucks system getting traction / control back. so if one has lost traction or steerage and was hands off and foot on brakes maybe the computers could work it out better without out our input?

I completely understand what you’re saying. Things have changed a lot with vehicle safety since the time we learned to “steer into the skid,” so many decades ago.

But, physics still hasn’t changed. We still need to do our part. Brake usage should be light, if at all, and steering in the direction that you want your rear end to go is also still valid.

Quite simply, with the tropical storm conditions we were under (40 mph gusts, rain) I should have stopped accelerating about 10mph before the incident. This happened right when I reached 55. I believe the back was lifted just enough by the wind to lose traction. Even going slower may or may not have helped.

Glad you're alright though. I've never rolled a car but have spun from hydroplaning and it's no fun.

Another update. The adjuster did declare the vehicle a total loss. At least they won't be trying to fix it for months on end.

I have put a deposit down on a 2022 Ecoboost Mustang. The carbonized gray one turned out to already be reserved, unfortunately.

So, another dealership has my second choice, atlas blue metallic. Progressive said one to two business days to figure out the value of the vehicle, then I have to get my gap insurance moving and buy a car.

The ranger was fun, and I will miss it.

I'd definitely would go for a Mustang with EB. But it would be great if they were available with the 2.7L EB.

Just my opinion, but that blue looks better than the gray.
