Ok, so the estimate came out to right about $4,400.00 US. Insane. They want to take the whole back end apart and spray the right quarter panel. I'm just not too comfortable with that. Everything on the rear gets taken apart. Everything.
I doubt the panel will match on the right side and there's just something about the entire rear body being taken apart and put back together that worries me.
What did they mean by everything? I assume just the taillights and bumper?

Tall lights, bumper, tailgate, right quarter panel. All of the trim parts attached to the quarter panel, the sticker, etc. It's a stupid long list of things.

On mine, there was a dent on the body line crease right beside the wheel well behind the wheel. A paintless guy tried to get it out, but failed. He didn't charge me and gave me the name of a shop where he knew the guy was good.

Turned out the shop was an approved shop for my insurance company. When I was talking with him I mentioned I was concerned about it matching and peeling. He said 'since I'm an approved shop you get a lifetime warranty, and I don't make money if I have to redo it'. He took all the stuff off too, and replaced the plastic bed rail and wheel well molding on the side he painted. He said he could probably reuse them, but always replaces them so they fit correctly. I've scrutinized it closely, and everything matches perfectly. Maybe white is easier to match, I dunno. I have the platinum white with metal flake.

Maybe ask around, if you have a local mechanic or can find an independent paintless guy and ask if they can recommend a body shop.

They have to bondp those large chips where the bumper made contact with the body. Spot prime, blend the color which can be hard with blues, and clear the whole panel. Not to mention some bumper supports could need replacement too. Bumper clearly defected enough to make contact with the body. Seems like a reasonable estimate of notba touch high.

I know how bad you feel.... I'm just like you. I always park in the farthest corner of the parking lot....bought a car cover just for hotels...etc.....do everything I can to keep my truck looking showroom fresh....but I ended up with a "mystery" scrape on my rear bumper......just like you have. You just can't win !!!

Hello all Ranger enthusiasts, I hope everyone is doing absolutely fantastic!

So it seems as though Blue Dream had a little unwanted touching. The secretary at my work backed out of her parking spot, her spot I was unfortunately parked next too, and skimmed my beautiful machine with her shitbox Nissan Frontier. She must have just barely barely kissed it. No actual disrespect to Frontier owners but hers isn't well kept. Mine is 29 months old at this point and because of my meticulous OCD I'm able to detail it so it looks factory fresh still to this day and thus far I haven't had even a minor door ding or anything like that. At all. So this kind of bums me out. Not to mention fanatical maintenance with only premium fluids, replacement parts, etc. I LOVE my truck.

Anyway, see the pictures and guess what the estimate came out to be. It's extremely minor. Nothing is dented or bent (thank God) but the amount for the repair estimate is mind boggling.
Let me know what you all think and I'll reveal the price later. As an aside, if anyone has any ideas to avoid such a ridiculously high repair bill, I'm all ears. But she's paying, so there is that. And I cannot stand the idea that a claim for something so insignificant would ding me on Carfax (no pun intended). Thanks for playing.

Thanks and have a most excellent day.

I'm sorry you had that happen. It sucks.
I suppose the "lemonade" in my situation is that our secretary did admit to what she did right away.
She could have not said anything and I wouldn't have even noticed until my next wash/detail session and by then I'd have probably thought some yo-yo did it to me at the grocery store or somewhere else. So for that, I have to say she is a decent and honest person.

It’s leave it or buy a new bumper imo…

Also how much flex does the outside corner of the bumper take since it scratches the inside part…sheesh…
It would be most likely between 700-1000 depending on the shop you use.. which reiterates… if you’ve had your eye on a new rear high clearance or off road rear bumper you might aswell just go that route.. unless you want to keep the original look well then yeah you’d be lucky to get it repaired under 700.

I haven’t read through the entire thread yet so I’ll do that now ?

That seems extremely egregious.. if you’re paying out of pocket you could get a set of front and rear “brand name” bumpers for that and just use a little touch up pen to fix the little scratches on that small part of the bed (which is covered by the bumper anyway.)
Holy smokes.. might as well hit it hard enough to remove the bumper?

Thinking about it might be the body shop trying to take advantage of a claim to.. to skim off the top… not saying that’s what they’re doing, I’m just saying it happens on occasion.
