Typo, ...the sound come from under the hood. Not inside the cab.

That "noise" is the blowoff valve leaking! You can get an almost identical "noise" if you vent the stock BOV to atmosphere. (This is my seventh turbo enhanced vehicle I have owned. The first was a 1962, Corvair Spider. It was converted to a blowoff system, and made the exact noise you are hearing!)

I keep hearing folks tell me (us) they can feel the difference between stock, and the after-market BOV. How could this be? The total boost is controlled by the powertrain module (CPU), not the BOV!

Further, I can't imagine anyone could tell any improvement in horsepower by the seat of their paints, as it takes about a 10% increase to "feel" any improvement. And, I haven't seen any, real-world dyno tests, which show any significant increase in HP or TQ by installing "just" the after-market BOV. Seems to me, you're buying niggling issues you don't need!
I get what your saying, the BOV and CAI are arguably more for our own listening pleasure than any really performance gains.

If it doesn’t do it with the OEM one then I’d wager it’s a defective BOV.

Turbosmart makes good stuff but every manufacturer is bound to have a small defect here and there. I think I’ve read somewhere else here that someone got one that didn’t align with the charge pipe right.

If the problem persists I would next inspect the wiring harness plug that goes into the BOV and confirm there's nothing going on with that particular connection point that would cause erratic BOV operation, and also check all those wires all the way to wherever they terminate on the engine.

If all that doesn’t do it - I’d take it to a shop for a boost leak test to see if that reveals anything out of sorts.

Final suggestion is the good ole fashioned unplug it (your battery) and plug it back it and see if a reboots cures your noise.

The sound come from inset hood. Not in the cab.
Im gonna put the OEM BOV back on and see what happens.
If that cures the problem, do I accept it as normal?
Hi Amos,

I can not answer your question as what do you wish...quite OEM BOV or squealing aftermarket BOV. I sense your concern is more related to warranty concerns. Personally, I see no advantage to an aftermarket BOV.... It is, in my opinion, just a purported "go fast" part that does little if anything but make noise. So your test will allow us to id the noise if the OEM valve is quiet. You then decide what you really want.

Bragging rights for modifications or performance. I really do not understand that people can feel the aftermarket BOV difference. Again, JMO. All I can offer that you moded your vehicle and a squeal developed. So something resulted in this noise.

Welcome to my world of the past at Ford when I faced this sort of issue. The diagnostics of which were difficult as most mod folks will not admit that they did a mod until I discover it one way or another.

decided to give it a try and added some Lucas Gun oil to the ring and reseated everything. Worked like a charm!

thank you guys for all your input.

Glad to hear it! Also a fun learning experience for the rest of us with aftermarket BOVs.

Hey guys,

So I just open the hood and double checked my connections on the blowoff valve. I thought it might’ve looked loose because of a tiny gap but I realize that was the space allowed for the gasket. I did remove it and took pictures of it looks like there may have been some type of leakage. I cleaned off both surfaces and reconnected and tightened everything down as best I could without stripping.

I took a video of the test drive.

Take a listen and see what you think.
If you would like to fast forward here are the times that I can hear the noise: 23 sec, 39 sec, 50 sec, 1:14 seconds, 1:42sec, 2min, 2:46 sec, 3:10 sec, 3:23 seconds, 3:33 sec.

Can you please post your video again? I think I may have the same noise from my 2019 Ranger. Thanks

i know its been a while but i wish i found this thread BEFORE i spent 2 days ripping through my engine trying to find the noise. i installed the turbo smart dual port bov it was fine at first but then it started squealing bad and lagging i knew i had a boost/air leak. i ended up swapping the bov to oem and it went away. now im hesitant to put it back on. how is it holding up with lucas?

Most folks here are to young to remember, but the older ones might....

How many remember the two, must-have items (no, they weren't go-fast pieces, but more like BOVs and tail gate dampers!) of the 50s? The two which stick in my mind, were the vacuum whistle, and the exhaust valve with a fart flapper attached.
