Hi Folks,

I have posted on my involvement with NASCAR. Just found one of my teams for which I was the team engineer for the Craftsman Truck Series....

Also, I think there is a post on my truck chassis in the hands of Mark Martin....

best,
Phil

Just your luck, Phil...a lifetime supply of fertilizer, and you retire to No-Grass Arizona!?

Excited to see the NASCAR street race in Chicago! :turkey: Been raining, but they’re getting started. They say they have rain tires.
Yeah, not sure how I feel about this yet. I would never go to see the race as I have no desire to be in Chicago or any other big city. A temporary track like this means you have scheduling issues like not completing yesterday's race and possibly todays. Sure you can run them in the rain but it's not what these cars and drivers excel at. You won't get the best show.
I know NASCAR wants to try new things and draw new people and the LA coliseum did that but not sure how this will work out.
Me, I'm fine with the ovals and maybe 2 road courses. Not a fan of gimics.

Let's see how well these professional drivers do in the rain on street tires.

There’s already slipping & sliding around & hitting tire barriers. Just hope no bad accidents occur.

LoL
people still watch nascar?
I’m from one of the biggest redneck states in the U.S. snd still cant grab the fascination of watching men drive in a circle while sitting in the blazing sun for 5 hours wearing headphones to listen to these guys driving in a circle while throwing chicken bones at the people in front of you ? (they still do that right?)
And then call it a ”sport” ?
Im just Fing with you nascar fans. I still don’t get it

And it is in no way a sport. Event yes, sport never ? ?

I caught a lot of it since I had nothing else to watch an it was crappy out....I read it may be the last Chicago road race too. Both sides have the right to cancel with 180 days notice. The new mayor says the previous admin gave NASCAR too good a deal on their payment for use of the park/streets. With all the rain delays an bad weather I wonder if attendance was subpar (like pretty much every other race) an it didn't generate the promised revenue. If it was a major inconvenience for little return it probably won't be back.

A guy making his first start in a stock car won. He has won 80 races down under an probably has tons of experience on road courses/street courses an running in the rain. Rain tires are almost brand new to the cup series.

So I wasn't in a place where I could actually watch the race but I was watching through the on board cameras and the standings through the nascar.com site. And my sister sending texts.
Couple problems I saw, and may be wrong since I didn't really see it.
1. Seams like there was a lot of cautions. Could be the rain or an unfamiliar course and likely a combination. During a short race like this, having so many cautions makes it a boring race imo
2. Nascar changing the length of the race during the race, is a crap move. It messes up strategy the teams may have had. I get why it was done, and it should have been done from the start. Not the first time it's happened and it's still a crap move.

Glad to see someone new win, that's always a good thing imo. And SVG was the second Aussie to win it the cup series. Marcus Ambrose being the first. The Aussie V8 Supercars are probably closer to the Cup cars than any other series.

So overall, I'm guessing this 'spectacle' is done and that's fine with me.

SHANE van GISBERGEN, Sundays winner, said he will run the Australian Super cars one more year and then he would like to try Nascar. I bet team owners are lining up to sign him. Justin Marks and Trackhouse Racing brought him here. They have been a breath of fresh air for the sport. ( Yes IMHO it is a sport and they are athletes) This is not your fathers Nascar. Nascars Ben Kennedy, team owners like Justin Marks and track owners like Marcus Smith are bringing new and fresh ideas. Even though I am basiclly "old school" I am OK with that. Other wise it will just grow old and die of natural causes.
From Nascars view I suspect that it was a huge success. 70% of ticket sales were first timers, and the numbers were good, despite the weather. That means new fans for Nascar. Street races are events, maybe not the best racing but they some times become iconic. Indycar at Long beach and F1 at Monaco come to mind.

They had to shorten the race because it started late an they weren't equipped to race in the dark. I like street courses an road courses but the problem is there's more tracks than dates. In the 90's they rushed to build new tracks an traditional old, small, unique tracks lost their race to cookie cutter mile an a half ovals. Ky had just a couple cup races then I think they lost all their dates unless the trucks still stop there. I don't follow it like I did back in the day but it'd be nice if they got a shot in the arm from this.
