This is the first truck where I've had a trailer and a motorcycle at the same time. Does anyone have some crafty solutions for making their bike fit in the bed while not having the tailgate (all the way) down with a trailer in tow?

The solution I've come up with but haven't invested in or tested is a wheel chock for the front wheel, move the rear tire sideways, and have some sort of system to keep the tailgate halfway closed. For keeping the tailgate half way closed I could run tiedowns through the tailgate straps or there's the spot where the tailgate latches closed and I could do a carabiner through that and the same tailgate straps.

Enjoy my beautiful rendition of a DRZ400 in the back of my Ranger. If it fails to load here's an imgur link. https://i.imgur.com/HN04KZg.png

Wheel Chocks I'm looking at:

2 ideas.

1. Just take the tailgate off. It's not hard.

2. The best idea: get a Z125 instead. Fits the bed nicely.

Those chocks look like they will waste a lot of space that you don't have. Just wedge the wheel up in the corner and go crazy with the tiedown straps. +1 for removing the tailgate.

Ya, #1 looks like the best option lol I thought of it during lunch and did a literal face palm... For #2 I wish I fit, 6'2" 250 I'd have trouble keeping the front wheel down haha.

That would be my thought. As light a bike as you have, it would be easy to tie it standing up without a wheel chock. If you really want a chock, just get a cheapo bent tubing chock.

the drz should fit corner to corner without the wheel cock .get yourself a canyon dancer tie down on handle bars cross bars a bit compress front shocks ratched down both front and rear.shut the gate. front tire tucked into corner and opposite side handle bar compressed first locks it in nicely.i cock that front wheel its a dirtbike !!ps make sure your handle bars are tight . (I have done this way with a klr 250 many times)

DRZ will easily fit in a 6ft bed diagonally, gate closed. It won't find in a 5ft bed without opening or removing the tailgate, though. I carried dirt bikes diagonally in my old ranger w a 6' box for years. Now that I have a 5' box I use a hitch carrier unless I need to load multiple bikes.

Thanks, 5' bed so tailgate off will be the solution with a camping trailer. I'm interested in a hitch carrier but I think I'd get better use out of a full sized ramp given I already have a little 300 pound tri-rail motorcycle trailer like this:

Keep you eyes open for a small used trailer. Easier to load/unload by yourself and you'll end up using it for other things also. I found this one on Craigslist for $400 and customized it for my purposes.
