I want a tailgate lighter really bad. The tailgate actually touches the black lip at the top of the bumper at both ends of the tailgate. My idea is to pop-rivit a piece of aluminum angle iron to the back of the black bumper cover at the top to pull the cover back. I already spoke the dealers body shop and they were not able to make it better.

I would also lower the license plate to give clearance to light bar.

Thoughts, do you think the pop rivets would hold the bumper cover to the aluminum angle? I would use the wahers with the pop-rivits for a larger holding surface.

Thanks,

George

Why not trim the lip off where you want to add a light? They are cheap enough to replace if you want to go back? Or just mount them under the bumper?

Try a heat gun to bend it back into shape. Sounds like the plastic might be warped. Personally, I wouldn’t go drilling holes and shooting rivets through the bumper. That would look a little tacky in my opinion. Or maybe the light bar will hold it down once you get it installed.

The aluminium angle will be on the back side of the bumper (under the truck) and the rivets would be covered by the light bar. I would use black rivets.

If they’re hidden it would definitely look cleaner
