Just remember, the ratcheting type are much thicker and can have issues with getting into tight spots. I say the 80/20 rule will apply... 80% of time your good, but 20% it won't work... and the open end may not in those cases as well. Regular box ends can get in 95 to 98% of the places you will want to get to... more tedious that the ratcheting but more of a sure thing. Especially for an onboard set to see duty at the road side or rest area. All of the above, IMO.

Yes, exactly. As an old mechanic, I have both types and just when I really want to use the ratcheting type, it does not fit. When it does not matter, lol, any wrench will do, including the ratcheting kind.

PS: The only other consideration is 12 or 6 point box end... I am partial to 6 point... on newer vehicles where the nut & bolts are usually not rusty and crusty 12 point will usually work, but road side, I want all purchase I can get on the nut/bolt with minimum chance of rounding the corners.

Just curious how much of my 2021 Lariat is Metric? and wondered if I even need a SAE or standard set.
You would need the metric set.

I've been building my wrench bag for 50 yrs. First was a Craftsman SAE combination wrench set. As metric fasteners became common I bought individual wrenches for the job. As the access became smaller I bought individual ratcheting SAE and metric.
I haven't added to the bag for several years now. I've been covered for the few jobs I take on.
Friggin bag weighs about 30#. Portable tool box weighs at least 60#. Both live in my Ranger's box. Extra rear traction in the snow.
