Hey all, I'm considering replacing my factory rims and while I think I've pretty much settled on the tires, I'm a bit lost when it comes to choosing rims. I'm leaning towards Faulken AT3s @ 265/70 R17.

If I do go with a 265 tire, what would be the ideal rim width? I've read a little and all I can find is there is some play between tire and rim width. I'm not really sure what width I should be aiming for on a 265 tire.

I'd like the tire pushed out some, hopefully to look good in the RTR fender flares I just ordered. Think 18mm is a good choice? I have a 2.5 RC level. I'm assuming I'd probably need the ReadyLift intrusion beams with that offset, hopefully no other cutting!

From tire size.com:

The 265/70R17 Falken Wildpeak A/T3W has a diameter of 31.9", a width of 10.7", mounts on a 17" rim and has 653 revolutions per mile. It weighs 52.9 lbs, has a max load of 3195/2910 lbs, a maximum air pressure of 80 psi, a tread depth of 18/32" and should be used on a rim width of 7-8.5".

Well I feel dumb, I've been on that site so many times comparing different tires I didn't realize it will also recommend the rim width. Would there be any issues going with a 9" rim since that's slightly larger than recommended? Most of the rims I've been looking at seem to be between 8.5-9.5" range

Iā€™m no expert but I think for that rim size you would go up to a wider tire.

When your wheels are wider than required for the tire, itā€™s a lot easier to damage the wheel on curbs, off road obstacles, etc.

Everything tires is on TIRESIZE.COM including manufacturer's specs for every tire on the market. Great resource for anything tires/rims sizes, specs, or comparison.

The 10 ply is only recommended on 7.0-8.5, but the 6 ply is okay 7.0-9.0. In most cases it will not make a substantial difference, but will have influence on handling and comfort.

Here is Falken AT3 265/70-17 and LT 265/70-17.

Iā€˜m running a 265/70R17 on a 9ā€ rim with no issues.

I'd want an 8-9" rim, ideally 8" or 8.5". Suggest 70 aspect ratio.
