Howdy

I'm looking at picking up some 255/75r17 wheels/tires from bronco takeoffs (duelers, which have served me well so far). and trying to figure out if they will fit vertically across the back of the bed. Distance to the wheel well in my 6' bed is about 28", so seems like they will fit that way. 255/75r17s are listed as a 10" width. Is that width the widest part of the tire, or just the width of the tread, and 1-2" wider at the widest?

The bed is apparently 55" across (at the top), though with my tonneau rails it's just under 52" so trying to figure out how hosed I am (or maybe i go 4 wide, then one vertical, but rotated 90 degrees in front).

Hate to overthink it, but stopping somewhere on a road trip to grab them so trying to make sure i pack appropriately.

They will fit. Bring straps if need be. I fit 4 44 inch Goodyear MTZs in the bed of an f150 5.5ft bed. 3 stacked flat in front and one on end in back. Tailgate closed too. I am positive they will fit for you one way or another.

That 10” number is tread width - sidewall to sidewall measurement is much more. You’ll get four across and could rotate the fifth as you’ve suggested.

I can’t recall if these fit in front of the wheel well humps in my Scab or not but tires sure take up more room than you’d think. A cargo bar or ratchet straps will keep things from moving around too much.

Good luck.

they won't fit. I guess you'll have to pass but let the seller know I have cash and room in my bed
Ha it's not a local find - Im traveling for the holidays and found some along the way, which brings up the biggest issue - packing other things. There are dozens of takeoffs available along the route. Some had TPMS removed, which also means they'd need a new balance (because bed broke, tire vs wheel rotated). Some people are delusional - usually the ones with 26 week old listings.

Appreciate the responses all. I understand FX4 and tremor both have wider tires. In a moment of sobriety last night I had the thought of throwing a 2x4 on each side of the tire sidewall and measuring the distance. Laziness and stupidity had me thinking pulling a wheel off to measure would be a PITA in this cold weather.

The existing bridgestone dueler 255/65R17s aired at 34psi measure just under 10.5". I'd assume the bronco 255/75r17s have similar sidewall width. In other words, I'd expect if i took the tonneau rails off I could go 5 wide. I think instead I'll go 4, and one in front rotated 90 degrees. Should leave enough room for a tub and some things to be thrown in front (72" bed, 32" used by 4x tires, 10.5" by last should leave some usable space).

If your traveling too pick up one of those hitch carge carriers and a large home Depot tote. They are a perfect fit and keep luggage dry. I have done it in the past. Bought take offs on a Florida to Chicago drive.

then tell them I'll meet half way. how much stuff you plan taking? you moving?
Just a few things. A few items for skeet shooting, gifts for the extended family, plus spouse + dog. Add in dog food, clothing for a week and a half, and you can see why i am trying to make sure i have room.

That's the real bitch! I have one i'm taking back with me from family, so don't want to buy another one. I do have a hitch on the front & rear though... ?

The way back will be easy. I'm still debating on what to do with the stock wheels/tires. I'm certainly going to use the rubber up (less than half worn at 22K miles, so doing great). Do i run those on the daily, and swap to the 32s for fun stuff? Run the 32s daily, but put the 30s back on for roadtrips? Burn up the 30s, use those for winter tires?

what the heck am i supposed to do with the 16" steelies I have in my garage? Do you want to buy those from me @myothercarizahearse? hah. Justifying 3 sets of wheels for the truck is difficult.

Daily driver set, winter tires, and off-road set? Good luck justifying that. Might need a second ranger to make sense of it. ?
