All,

I am planning on adding reverse lights to the Backrack that I have mounted on my Ranger using the "sport light brackets" for added safety backing up at night. Light Bracket | Sport Light Brackets (pair) (backrack.com)

My Ranger with BackRack

Questions:
1. What kind of lights should I be looking for (brands, specs etc)
2. How would they connect cleanly without bastardizing or compromising my truck's electrical system.
3. I am considering a small number of amber lighting just for occasional in work zone use. Does anyone have experience with upfitting these on their Rangers or am I better off getting a vaccum/magnet one for the roof.

Any input is appreciated.

the brand is going to relate directly to cost and how much you want to spend. some of the big brands like rigid ind. and baja designs make excellent stuff that will last but they are not easy on the wallet. you can get some of the china lights like auxbeam, nilight etc. for a nice price but you will not have the long service life or light quality. but in my view a set of 50 dollar led amazon or ebay china flood lights should be fine as reverse lights. as for wiring you may be able to do a relay that kicks on the new lights when you shift to reverse or maybe from the trailer plug. adding switches would work also.

I have Rigid lights on mine. I ran them under the chassis and hooked them directly into my upfitter switch under the hood.

I used a wiring harness from Nilite when I put aux lights in my rear bumper. It is fused and come with a relay to make it easy. They were bought off of Amazon.

Hey RangerDanger617,
I would recommend going with our Dual S2 sport reverse light kit. The is kit comes with everything you need to be able to use them as reverse lights. The kit comes with a harness that connects directly to your Taillight plug. If you wish to connect them to your Upfitters on the vehicle then you can go with our S2 sports w/c amber. The harnesses you would need to connect to your up fitters is 55 inch splitter, 10 ft Extension, Upfitter harness. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
Best,

Diode Dynamics makes several different quality lights and accessories, and their technical support is outstanding. I would give them a look to see if any of their products fits your needs.
