Changing the oil the other day and found this.

Took it in to the dealer and instead of replacing the bad boot they replaced the whole drive shaft. I thought it was kinda weird that for a $20.00 boot they would replace the whole shaft $365.00. Maybe labor cost made it easier to just replace the shaft.
The only complaint I have from the dealer is they didn't clean up the grease that was slung around. Would of been a lot easier to clean without the drive shaft in the way.

I am having the 3to4 shift issues with my transmission and had them check it out but of course it didn't act up when they had it. Not to worried at this time because my warranty is for 8 years 120k and I don't see this transmission making it that long.

edit: now get out there and check your shaft :)

Replacing the boot on a half shaft is labor intensive and could introduce new problems. Far easier and quicker(aka cheaper) to swap a complete assembly.

Sucks they didn't bother blasting the gunk with brake parts cleaner.

I had a similar issue to this on my front drive shaft. Turned out to be some grease leaking out of the vent hole. Dealer said it would do it just a little bit, then stop. That is in fact what happened, and I had no trouble after that.
