I saw that F1 movie when it first came out; I knew about pit crews and stuff, but never realized just how big the "behind the scenes" teams were.
I'm a huge NHRA fan and about 8 years ago we got VIP passes to the Phoenix race and into Tony Petregons camp. We had full access to their camp which included food, bus access and seeing and talking to Tony and all his crew. Watching them tear down the dragster between races, that was a work art! Each member has a job from tearing it down, inspect and replace and put it back together. It's like watching a surgeon perform an operation but much faster.

I'm trying to get VIP passes to next year's Phoenix race because they're (NHRA) doing a 50 anniversary celebration for John Force who's my all time favorite racer. So far I'm striking out because the guy I got them from last time has retired and doesn't have all the contacts but he's trying.

The best parts of NHRA are watching the crews tear down and rebuild the cars, and of course John Force interviews.

I always loved going to the races and watching the pit crews.

He is a riot! They had a tv series on him in 2006 called Driving Force which was kind of like the Osbornes but a much better show. He told about how he grew up very poor living in a trailer and worked his way up to what he has now. He had just finished building his new house (mansion) in Yorba Linda, CA and how him and his wife Laurie were still married but living separately because he was such an ass. lol I'm glad to see them honoring him because no ones ever raced for 50 years and he really is the face of the NHRA!

I had him sign a visor for me when we were in Englishtown, NJ back in 2014. He would stay after the race and make sure everyone got to meet him and sign whatever they had.

My high school friends had one of these (1956 Chevy Sedan Delivery) that was run in the NHRA tracks before we bought it. Still had the big letters in the paint of the panels. Put a Chevy 409 V8 in it and ran it at a dragstrip in Hialeah, Fl. It had welded in engine mounts (no rubber cushion), and it would lift the front tire when revved hard.

Threw a rod through the block in the second year they raced it. We all had 2 door 55 and 57 Chevys, and one 57 Nomad. This was way back in 1971-1974. Great memories!
