tried spare key fob to unlock truck and it wouldn’t unlock..Heard some “clicking” noise from truck, but would not open the door..
Do I need to replace the fob battery or is there something else going on?? It’s been inthe spare key box and hoping it’s not some sort of reauthorization thing?

thoughts..

Have you replaced the truck battery yet? This issue seems to come up when the battery in the vehicle is needing replacement. Also read the auto start/stop may stop working as another indicator.

Just last week I tried using my spare key that had been in "storage" for 4 years... (was changing the battery in my primary key just because 4 years and had it apart waiting for the new key batteries to show up from Amazon... a 2450 FYI... not the common 2032) which worked fine a couple times but then I got a "key battery low" message on the instrument cluster.

Then changed both key batteries when the new ones arrived, message went away.

Did not notice any key related issues with the "weak" battery... remote start worked, door locks, etc. I am still on the original truck battery so don't know how that will impact the keys when the time comes to change that battery.

Yes..Truck battery was replaced several months ago.. The key fob I use daily continues to work, the extra key fob, that’s been put away for safe keeping doesn’t! Everything else works, auto stsrt, touch door locks etc..

I change my fob batteries once a year - overkill? Yes, but they're so inexpensive plus I have Chipolo tags and they recommend changing them once a year. I think those are constantly sending out Bluetooth signals.

I dunno if a key fob does that but I suppose it might. So even one sitting unused might be chatting with the truck when in range (glovebox). But I'm talking out of my ass on that one and I don't have push button start. =(

Soupie's next upgrade - push button start fanciness! =D

The fob batteries should be changed to help eliminate the possibility. They are very inexpensive.
