I have a Putco tailgate lightbar but not this model. Bought it from Ford accessories. It came with its own harness that taps into the rear lights. Unfortunately, it has been a nightmare for both myself and the tech(s) that installed it and I will be having it removed. Hopefully this newer product from Putco won't include any hassles. It does look sharp!

i just got my freedom blade last week. Hoping to get it tested (and maybe installed) this weekend. I was looking at several tailgate strips last year, but something told me to hold off. And then came the freedom!

Let us know if it works as promised and if the install instructions are correct. Any issues you encountered. Also any tailgate clearance issues.

Thanks

I've used Putco Blades (Not Freedom Type) on several trucks that weren't Fords and they worked great. However, when I had them installed on two different Fords, an F-150 and my current Ranger,I had electronic issues after installation. In both instances I had to remove them.On my Ranger the tail light stopped working $1100 replacement.Hope you have better luck than I did

I know from experience that Putco and Fords have issues. All other makes seem fine

Sorry for being late in reply to this. I have been under the weather for a few weeks.

We connected up the full haness and per the instructions did NOT connect the red wire. I had even called support before we did the install to ask some questions and confirmed the red wire should be left unconnected. They told me on the phone that wire should have never been added to the freedom controller and that it was on the OEM harness for another product.

When we tested all the functions the brake light did not work as expected. I had programmed to do the triple flash. First brake after power up appeared to have worked, but never again. We even tried just connecting the 4 wire to the trailer connector on the bumper (eliminating the OEM harness), and still no go.
Putco only open weekdays, so waited till after the weekend and called them. They told me the controller was likely bad and to put in a warranty claim.

They shipped me a new one. When I felt better and had a few minutes I tested using the 4 pin only with the new unit. Same issue.

So called support again after the weekend. Several emails later going back and forth about how to hook up the unit they told me I needed to connect the red wire as it was the brake. I confirmed with them that the instructions and even support stated to leave it disconnected. They did state again to connect the red wire.

As soon as I can crawl under to connect the OEM harness again I will test it all out again.

Has anyone who installed this had the same issues? And did it all work correctly in the end?

Hey there. I am having the exact same issue. Putco told me the same thing they told you and I did a warranty claim. Received the new one and still same issue. Right turn signal doesn't want to work still. It initially did for a few seconds.

Any luck ?

Pretty expensive for something that gives so many issues. I would like one but this thread sends me away.
