I know this is an old post to comment on, but damn, are those encyclopedias? Anyone under 40 wouldn’t know what those are used for. We used to have Britanica, New World And Word Book.
Were your encyclopedias hard copies?

These are the 1959 Edition (black and white) of The book of knowledge (Children's Encyclopedia). These classics are interesting to look at and see how our culture and thinking has changed. Here is a copy of a page under the subject "Automobiles" which happens to have a Ford pic on it!:

Yes, they were hard copies. My mom got them for my future when I was four back in 1963. I remember we got an annual volume in the mail every year with updated information. Don't know what happened to them.

I do remember when my grandfather swore the Capital of Pennsylvania was Pittsburg. My mom showed him the encyclopedia, and it said Harrisburg. He threw the book across the room and said it was lying. Can't beat Michigan hillbilly logic. That must explain why I live in Arizona. Not Phoenix through; Dave is right, too damned hot up there. "It's so hot, it should be illegal."

Very Cool Dave, so happy for you
The roof is now completed and the HVAC is getting roughed in now. We met the electrician yesterday to walk through the lighting, plugs & switch layout and today we're meeting the plumber. It's usually tough to get things done around the holidays so it was nice to see that my builder has some really great subs working hard.

Very cool Dave. My dad was a rough carpenter and there is nothing better than seeing a load of lumber become a house in just a few short days. Have fun with the interior. We just did a whole house remodel in 2021, and the choices and decisions were never ending.

Thanks Fred! I've been in construction basically my whole life and you're right it is nice to see a house from the ground up. I've built 2 others back east which I subbed out myself but I don't know anyone out here so I hired a builder for this one. This is the fun stage because everything really starts coming together now and Annie can really visualize it more and more each week. I'm sure Duke will be sending out invitations sometimes mid spring for the house wrecking party. ?‍♂

I live in the high desert and the weather here is not severe even though the summers are hot but tolerable. I have visited Phoenix (have relatives there) quite a few times in the past during the summer...the humidity and heat was a stretch but I like the desert :tumbleweed: and could probably get use to it if I needed to move there. Me going there was probably like a Phoenix person going to Death Valley...

The desert is actually quite nice if you get away from Phoenix. We’re in Vail, AZ just to the south east of Tucson. The elevation is 3,600 feet, so 106 is a really hot day. We get snow every 3rd year or so. Big temp difference between night and day. Also, the desert is very green here compared to Phoenix.

As far as climate goes, Tucson has been compared with Albuquerque as being very similar.

Here is a good friend of mines house built in 1885. He bought it about 25 years ago and has restored the inside and outside over the years. He's still living in it today and amazingly it hasn't fallen down on him.

Nice! MUSEUMS. ?. these houses are rebuild new and financed with plenty of donations... that was exactly my point and you know it!

i was talking about houses with a useful life of several centuries at no higher cost than those that are less than 25 years old IN PRIVATE OWNERSHIP AT ALL TIME. and all this without toxic waste. despite napoleon and the two world wars on our doorstep…?

and …? did ur buddy wrapped that house in foil? was it wrapped in foil at some time in the last century? btw. 130 years… ? my granny was 101.
apart from that, it also looks a lot like the lighthouse project of a higher earner to me... but that's another issue … ?

Zip FTW!!
This is a nice system and I really thought about adding the Zip R (insulation backer) too. But we were going crazy with extras and other areas needed some money. lol I think if this was a different climate where the weather was harsh like in AZ or up in MN I would've definitely added it.

Whats wrong with You ?
Happy New Year!
I can only return your question...
what's wrong with this usa lifestyle and the people.
? in case you haven't heard, greenland is not for sale. and if it is, it will be too expensive for you.
because your lifestyle on credit will not be so easy in the future. keyword: over-indebtedness!
to come back to the topic. such plastic huts are the credits of your descendants!

Passed all the rough in inspections last week and they just finish insulating the walls Saturday. After many hours of research (probably weeks) I changed my mind on doing spray foam and went with a High Density fiberglass BIB (Blown-In Blanket) system instead. They were there prior to blowing it in air sealing (spray foam) all the penetrations, around the windows and doors and all tight corners and even caulked along the floor. BIBs will not settle and fills all voids when done properly and as much as I wanted to do spray foam I’ve read (and watched) to many horror stories about people getting sick from the off gassing. Granted the main culprit from this is a bad spray job as conditions and the mix need to be perfect.

Sadly I have no faith in people now to do the job right and if I was back home in MA I would’ve 100% done spray foam because I know everyone there. The blown in dense pack is the next best thing and I’m sure that along with the upgraded windows, HVAC and Zip System on the walls and roof will be sufficient. But there’s aways something and good thing I took pictures of every wall before they insulated. They buried the alarm motion wires and the camera wires. ?‍♂ Now the insulation inspection and on to sheetrock!

This was the video that made me change my mind against spray foam. This poor guys house is a mess from spray foam.

Seems like I remember seeing something somewhere that some insurance companies will not insure spray foam homes.
