This has been much discussed here. If you search for lower grille insert you will find much info. What you are seeing through the bumper opening is actually your A/C condencer coil not the intercooler, which is much higher behind the main grille. Besides the Putco insert there is also a couple designs made by Mountains to Metal that some are using.

If you want something to protect your intercooler or radiator (not sure which it is actually, behind the grill) I made something that I found on Amazon. Here it is.

Zoom in and you can see the honeycomb metal piece behind the Raptor style grill.

I bought the mountains to metal and a, happy with it. If anything I like the way it seems to complete the look of the front end.

Wish there was more pics of what this design or the other one they have on actual trucks, but I'm happy with it.

I had it for 2 years now, just easy on installing the valence back cause some of the clips are plastic but over all not hard to install. Are you thinking about installing a light instead of a grille?

No, just want to protect the radiator.

I have Putco insert on my truck, yet another thing Ford SHOULD have installed on these trucks but didn't. Well worth it IMHO.

Something to think about, anything placed in the open hole, no matter the size of the openings, will have an effect on the cooling process. ?
