right above the passenger headlight. My uncle was pulling into our camp area on his Honda Trail90 and some pedestrians weren’t paying attention. Stepped in front of him and he took evasive action right into my truck. I had fabulous parking, but wrong place at the wrong time lol. His handlebars gouged my hood right above the passenger headlight.

good news: I already have a paint pen from ford. It’s also right where a bug deflector would go. Isn’t AVS the go to recommendation here??

Paint pens are pretty nice aren’t they,
The avs one i believe is a good one… I don’t have one yet but it is the one that’s on my list. I think Aeroskin was the other one I was thinking about. (But it covers further up the hood.. wondering the function over fashion currently.. if something worked much better but doesn’t look as good…that’s what would be getting.)…
Hope your uncle isn’t to busted up because of the caught in wonderland wandering pedestrians.

yeah it’s odd cuz I’ve looked around at these bug deflectors before and can’t choose. There’s considerable variation in the appearance of the options.

And my uncle is fine! I think he really felt bad and I insisted it could’ve been way worse! He’s demanding I allow him to buy me the bug deflector but I’m not gonna allow that for something I already wanted!

I’m trying to find the one I found (but can’t remember brand) but it had a nice profile and was textured black (looked like bedliner/Line-X) which I kinda over looked much earlier because I didn’t realize how much of the bedliner texture I was actually going to go for…if I find it I’ll pop the link on here if that’s a style you’re interested in.
Agreed accidents happen, I’d just have him make breakfast ?..

Or you could have him buy you a tailgate damper? (if you don’t have one.)

The Honda Trail 90 is a classic ride. A grown up minibike. I had a CT90 which had the step through frame and a rear rack. A grocery getter. I rode the piss out of that thing as a kid. It burned oil so much it eventually killed the rings bad enough, it had trouble starting. One day I butt started it and rode it off the end of a dock in the marina. Blub, blub, blub.

you aren’t thinking of the ford bug deflector are you?

I personally dig the AVS tinted look.

and that’s a negative on the tailgate damper. I retain my purity. I did give in on 303 products tho.

oh yeah that’s a solid finale for a bike haha!

my uncle has won a few awards for his upkeep/restoration of this Trail 90 at Vintage Motorcycle Days. He bought it new in the 60s and has kept it going all this time. On top of being a talented racer, he was a mechanic for Yamaha and Honda.

Also if you need the exact color match Dr Color Chip has some great DIY kits. They have all the factory colors and several videos on how to apply it.

The evasive action I would have taken would have been to take out the pedestrians who were not paying attention, or at least use one as padding between the bike and Ranger...

I second the AVS and liked it so much I swiped it off my '19 when it got totaled. lol If you get one instal the rubber bumpers on the backside of the bug shield and not the hood.

oh excellent! Thanks so much for the link and the tip on the mounts. Also appreciate the dr color chip advice. The oem paint pen is a little old, so if I have any issue I’ll look into this.

lol, I’m sure if he could do it over again he’d have stuck his boot out and given them the motorcycle variant of the Heisman.

the humor in all of this is that about 30 years ago my cousin put me on an ATV and set me loose on the property. Turns out it didn’t have functioning brakes. First/second grade aged me attempted to shoot a gap between vehicles and the handlebar dragged a gash in the paint of my dad’s minivan from front quarter panel to damn near the rear taillight. My uncle has told this story for years because he found it hilarious, and was impressed my dad didn’t kill me. Instead choosing to show mercy. So now the tables have turned and my uncle hit my truck. How could I do anything but laugh and shrug off true irony? I got a kick out of it.

Friday yet?

Hmmm... hitting my Ranger or a group of pedestrians. Um... well... carry the 2 subtract the 1, skull cramp coming on.... so ah what about um.... ok, dry rate of paint in 78% humidity... but, well full moon... beer in garage fridge waiting on me... jeez, can I have some time to think on this conundrum and get back with you as to my decision?

Amazing just how tough some decisions are.
