Just when you thought the damn things couldn't get any worse, this just popped up on my feed:

Seriously? "Can Cybertruck drive on any snowy road?" That's the best question you could come up with, Hayden Garcia (whoever you are)???
Take away the whale tail and I'd drive it! It looks better than the stock version which really isn't saying much. lol

My kid's response was "At least it looks funny and it'll stand out from every other Cybertruck."

As for saying it looks better than the stock version, well, here's the bar on that.

And here is one of the worst jokes that I've seen in a while...

Ford.webp
Two possible interpretations there, both equally unlikely in today's manufacturing & business reality:

1) Ford has a significantly worse product than every other manufacturer, which, let's be honest, with how much they all use the same/similar parts from the same third-party manufacturers, doesn't seem statistically likely.

2) Ford has more integrity than other manufacturers and is actually taking responsibility for the issues necessitating a recall rather than have their lawyers try to delay and bury the issue as long as they possibly can to the benefit of their quarterly stock reports and their investors' profits.

You also have to look at what the recalls are related to.
I'd rather get 5 recalls for camera, or SW update, that a recall to replace an entire engine due manufacturing issue.

" Toyota is set to replace a total of approximately 229,000 engines in Tundra pickups and Lexus LX models due to ongoing issues with their twin-turbo V6 engines. "

Or worse, have a potential engine failure, and so you get an oil change:

GM " the L87 recall affects roughly 597,630 vehicles produced between the 2021 and 2024 model years. To remedy the issue, a GM technician will inspect the engine and, if the related defects are identified, replace the engine. If the engine is unaffected by the defects, the dealer will replace the engine oil with a higher viscosity oil and update the oil fill cap, oil filter, and owner’s manual."

That didn't work in my high school beater I ran straight 40 weight and still had low oil pressure... And it doesn't work in modern weaker built engines. It might hide the knock when cold, but it ain't gonna last.

True Story
I remember being 23 and helping an older adult church friend (50ish) when he called me in a panic, his daughter was stranded 10 miles away. She told him the oil light came on her way home and she has kept going trying to make it home ... until it started slowing down and finally stopped. She coasted into a gas station and called from there. We went to get her, and found the engine locked up (this was way before cell phones - 45 years ago). He had it towed to his home, and asked me to look it over, and try to keep it running long enough to get her through school. I dropped the pan, and pulled a rod cap, The bearing was peeling like an onion skin, with flakes in the pan.

I told him the engine was shot and needed to be replaced. He pleaded with me to try anything to keep it running until the end of the year. The oil pump has seized and twisted the drive rod in two that went up to the bottom of the distributor, which ran off the cam. I gave him the bad news again, and told him the long shot that I had in mind, and that it was a very bad idea, that there was < 10% chance it might work... in all honesty I was convinced that it wouldn't work.

We went the parts store and purchased a new oil pump and drive rod, and rod bearings. I placed STP Oil Treatment on the bearings and then installed them, placing the rod caps on backwards! CRAZY I know! (I never use STO Oil Treatment, it poured slower than honey! but I wanted something thick!)

Filled it full of oil and prayed. Man it turned over slowly but finally started! No knocks, but I figured it wouldn't be long before we would hear them. He got behind the wheel and we went for a test drive. Driving through town stop and go all was OK. I kept waiting for the failure.... I told him that I was nervous about this and to take it easy. He turned onto I-20 and floored it to 80mph!

I shouted at him to back off.

His reply. "I gotta know if this thing is going to hold together, my daughter will be driving daily to/from college." 20 miles later we exited and drove it home. Not a single knock! I lived there two more years, and she was still driving it when I moved!

I would not have believed it possible had not done the work myself. And I still can't believe that it actually worked. We broke ALL the rules, but he figured it was worth the $100 risk vs buying another car. He was proven correct... and he didn't know a thing about repairing cars... but it didn't stop him from crawling under the car with me!

A true story! Honest!

TBH, I was half-expecting this to end "I put a ring on it, and 45 years later, I'm still making sure she gets where she needs to go!"
