The Pork Patty was the bottom dweller in ours.

If you got that, absolutely nobody was gonna trade with you.

A white plastic disc that turned into a greasy white something or other.
I remember those.........couldn't pay someone to take it! And, there wasn't enough tobasco to choke it down either!

Our unit was issued T-Rats or Tray Rations on a Field Exercise once. The mess hall folks put them in stacks on the dock, so the person who picked them up grabbed a stack and put it in the CUCV and brought it to our unit. What the mess hall folks did not tell anyone is to take one from each stack. I have never been so tired of Lasagna in my life. Still to this day, I do not like lasagna.
I was a big fan of the "Breakfast Bake" T-Rat

The pork patty was not bad once mixed in with Ramen noodles and the flavor pack added.
You always have to remember the intended usage. High energy & protein, when and where needed.

I still remember the best pea soup I've ever had. It was mildly warm, served in an aluminium mess kit, at a muddy open roof restaurant which had underground seating and where water was served up to ancles. But after four* days on few yoghurt and pack of cripsbread it was a heavenly meal. (*=FOB team logistics SNAFU at a training exercise).

btw: of all the MREs, I've liked the french best.

I'm ashamed of myself for not mentioning that infamous denizen of the C-ration era:
The "JOHN WAYNE" candy bar.

In boot camp week 2 or 3, there was only 1 MRE left in a box so I grabbed it, cheese omelet. I thought “hell I love cheese omelet's!” Will Never make that mistake again. I believe it’s been removed from the menu now.

I never had any breakfast type MREs. Not sure why it wasn't offered to us while I was in. I did enjoy S.O.S. at the mess hall.

I never knew Breakfast MRE's existed. The worse was the Chicken Ala King, it really was horrible. As for T-Rats, I had the scrambled eggs and bacon, did not know which was the eggs or the bacon, they were the same color and taste. Good thing T-Rats came with tabasco, that was the only way to have taste.

OK, I have to chime in here. All the talk about MREs and S.O.S is a bit off topic for this thread.... If you guys want to continue to reminisce about MREs, please take it to the off topic lounge.

Thanks
