So recently i had my ranger check engine light come on when i was driving and i scanned the OBD2 and it gave me the error code p0402. It says its EGR A Flow excessive detected. so I'm not sure that that means or how to fix it. any insight would be greatly helpful.

It ties into the PCM is reading EGR flow at Idle, the EGR Valve should be closed at idle.
It is most likely the DPFE Sensor, all covered in the Buck Surge Thread

I have posted some Live PID Data for a Ref of normal recently in that thread, if you have a scan tool to do some comparisons. Forscan will not show all of the needed PIDs.

thank you so much for your reply! I have read a little into it, how do you think i should go about fixing it? Also do you think it would be a bad idea swapping some spark plugs because of the possibility of water getting into them. The only reason i say this is i did clean out my engine bay a few months ago and it is possible that is what caused it...... not completely sure. any input is help full.

That code isn't caused by bad spark plugs. It is probably a bad EGR flow sensor (DPFE sensor). It is about a $20 part from RockAuto and fairly easy to change. See this thread:

Yes, not caused by the Spark Plugs, the only way to confirm is with a Live Data Monitor as if the DPFE is the cause of it. I HATE shot gunning parts, but will say that its a 95% chance it will fix it.

Just a suggestion I go to Auto Zone to get a Ck Eng light checked, no charge. They give you a printout that has a lot of information normally including what is wrong, possible issues and faulty parts.
