I work a job where 16 hr days are common. Driving tired is a reality of life for me. I will never buy another vehicle without the full suit of sensors & acc ever again. That stuff really works and if I'm being honest with myself, there are 2 people alive today because of it. (Not including me).
...and not to mension the numerous fender benders that I WASN'T in.

Just sayin'.
A coworker tells a story of how his truck saved someone from being injured too. I'll tell it as best I can remember. He has a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 with a 4" lift.

He was on a late night beer run (he's kinda "that guy") and it was around 9 or 10pm. He pulls to a light, stops, and starts to take a right but his truck won't start moving. Well, it turns out the reason it wasn't moving was there was a lady in all black out for a run... and she was shorter than his hood. He would've hit her if the truck didn't have the tech.

This story made a mark on me and I made sure my Ranger was equipped with all of the safety sensors. I was even going to add them to an STX, but at that point an XLT is better value. If spending potentially $500 keeps me out of a wreck or someone from being injured (and preventing all the legal BS that follows too), I'll spend that money.

I say let Darwin work. Shouldn't be out running at night wearing dark clothes. Any decent traffic crash investigator will point that out. I wear bright and reflective clothes during the day. Not saying he probably wouldn't get sued in the end.

Yes she's an idiot. But think in broader strokes. A 5 year old chasing a ball,
I'm interested in knowing more about this tech.
I have never head of that feature as described in anyone's literature on pedestrian protections.
I don't know. I haven't done any research on that system in particular. But it simply made me think about how these emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and pedestrian sensors are good things when they work as intended. And they're good for everyone. Seat belts protect occupants, sensors have the potential to reduce or prevent injury. Whether that's in a vehicle collision or a pedestrian crossing.

I agree she's an idiot, but I'd rather not have to deal with any of the mess that follows. Could be a kid next time, you just never know.

If vehicles had an external idiot detector to go along with the BLISS, you would have to cut the wire to the alarm as it would be sounding non stop in Atlanta.

I thought this was going to lead to the fact that the GMC just stopped working...

Lol well it's a 6.0 truck so should just go forever. Only GM engine I'd buy.

Agreed 1000%.

@Bob902:

Our daughter is 30 and was a pedestrian hit by a Kia Sorento while legally in a crosswalk 2.5 years ago. She survived but hasn't been able to work, can't concentrate on any task for more than a few minutes or be in a room with more than one conversation going on, she can't go see a live music show, or enjoy the life she knew. She has been catastrophically maimed by a traumatic brain injury, yet she looks "normal" when you meet her. Who knows, maybe if buddy's Kia had a sensor to pick her up when his eyes didn't see her she might be working at the vet clinic today doing what she loves and being self-supporting.

What does Darwin have to say about that?

My F56 MINI had pedestrian saving tech on it. Go to pull out between two large trucks in a mall parking lot and someone's kid comes darting out from around the other side. Boom, stopped.

I got the XLT Ranger and it has the emergency braking assist thing on it (whatever you want to call it) but no idea on anything else on it. That said a Lariat trim model was in the cards but after reviewing the gauge cluster in one, I said no thanks!

You are missing my point. First, I am truly sorry about daughter and I don't wish that on anyone. But, my point was, why are running at night wearing dark colored clothing making it even harder for people to see you. That just doesn't make any sense. Again, terribly sorry about your daughter and not trying to offend.

None taken, and thank you. I just try to raise awareness where I can, she did everything right, as people should. But ultimately, the driver is in control of several thousand pounds of steel and glass. That's why you need a license to drive but not walk I guess ?

Yeah, they're not too good at following directions.

I once told my wife to sit down and be quiet, and she didn't do either one of those things...
Someone here posted this. Maybe you?
