There is a serious disconnect with batteries, of any kind, being environmentally friendly. There is as big of a negative, as there are positives.
I agree with this. But, some here assume that the only reason people buy EVs is to "save the planet". I don't in any way think about saving the planet, basically myself or anyone here can make any appreciable difference. The technology, power and quietness of an EV is very cool. If there was better range today, I would buy one. Notice, how I didn't give my reason for buying an EV as "saving the planet".

I had a PHEV, when Ford goes that route (2025?) I will be onboard for that.

Big money grab, I agree but that's the case with any new industry but politics are absolutely pushing it along unnecessarily. Worse for the environment is debatable but I see your point. I agree on the mining for battery materials but in 10 to 15 years they will be recycling old batteries. Tesla already has a procees to break down and separate the lithium, cobalt, aluminum and other materials from old batteries.
I'm not trying to protect the environment by any means but I'm not against being responsible. I'm 100% conservative but can see the future of electric in everything. Kind of how battery powered tools and lawn equipment is taking over. I also prefer beer to wine. ?
Lots of investments taking place in other technologies - hydrogen is one but also many people feel lith-ion is not the long term EV battery, numerous companies are trying to develop solid state batteries - inc. Toyota, BMW, Honda, Nissan, etc. Irrespective of gov conspiracy theories much of the planet acknowledges the need to move away from fossil fuel energy, some are actually taking it seriously.

I did the same, I sold my truck due to gas mileage and some quality issues and I have zero regrets. It’s crazy that a mid size truck with a smaller footprint, smaller engine and less hp and tq gets worse mpg than the full size trucks

What did you buy to replace it?

Interesting thing about Tesla, arrived back home to the airport after a 4 day trip. My buddy's Tesla's 12v battery was dead for no apparent reason. Could not open the car, could not communicate with the car over the air, could not even get in to it at all... Had to call and wait for a specialized Tesla approved tow company to come out to open the car, access the 12v battery to unlock stuff so they could tow it to Tesla (30 miles away) and wait 3 days for repair/replacement of the 12v Battery. Just not ready to make that jump.

Our street below us neighbor has a Tesla.....It has logged more miles on a roll back than it has driven on the street. It also was out of juice when we had storm induced power failure... So at great expense they installed a roof full of Solar panels and a Power Wall or two. Next power failure they smuggle indicated the they were all set....except the setup did not work... Still stranded them and they are at a loss for why Musk's powerwall would not charge their car.... Oh well...I am sure they will work it out and "win" in the end... Can't imagine how many $ they poured into a system to charge their POS Tesla...

best,
Phil

Posted a while ago about my abysmal gas mileage. With registration due this last month I shopped the truck around. Good enough numbers came in that I let it go. Sold my 2021 XLT 301a with 9k miles for $36,500 to a local dealer.

Decided to go a complete extreme from the truck and reserved a Tesla CPO Model 3 that I'll (hopefully) pick up later this week.
You have changed my mind about my pathetic Ranger. You, sir, are a visionary. My Ranger will go up for sale tomorrow morning. Fuel mileage? Averaging 22 on 93 E0 I paid $5.39.9 for in recent weeks. My Ranger even has the FRPP Ecoboost Performance tune.

What is my gripe about this pathetic truck?

No wine chiller and/or an automatic joint dispenser in the console. No other manufacturer has them either, but I've ben spilling my favorite ripple and fumbling baggies all over the place while I try to roll a joint when driving. To heck with Ranger, I'll just start using Lyft/Uber...(jk).....

good story. my tesla told me via app notification to my cell phone that the 12v battery was low and needed replaced. submitted service request via mobile app in less than 5 minutes. picked up battery the next day. took 15 minutes to replace.

you reference your friend but I've put 200k miles on MY tesla's and only service was replacing upper control arms.

total charging cost install - $15.00 upgrading a 50amp outlet to 60amp
Installed solar and powerwalls. haven't had an electric bill since 2020

Here's some EV logic from an esteemed individual...

That logic and intellect is what it takes to be a representative in Congress...
