Tried doing a search but came up empty. I know in the instructions in talks about a different sound when using the upgraded spring in the kit. What different sound is it supposed to make? Obviously not the PSSHH sound but mine makes a flutter when I let off on boost and really just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. I just have the DV+ and a filter. Thanks!

Forgive my lack of knowledge but can you elaborate or describe with the flutter characteristic happens to be? Do you have a video clip by any chance just because I’m curious!

Google compressor surge. Its turbulence around the wheel. Go to the normal spring. Thats not doing you any favors. It was common on mildly tuned 7.3 powerstrokes. They made an upgrade compressor wheel to eliminate it. Those didn’t have throttle bodies or BOVs so slightly different concept.

Perfect example! I always use WRX examples when I think of extra loud BOVs, with very abrupt qualities, so that was pretty fitting!

I’m familiar with turbo surge in theory, but clearly not the telltale signs! I had no idea how obvious it can be!

Of course it was a WRX; they always seem to make the biggest scene… At least when I hear them (I imagine they don’t have to be, and there are different options… And of course I would only notice the ones that are a little over the top!)

I was aware that compressor surge wasn't good but that one really stood out, and the flutter seemed extremely worrisome; which is definitely an understatement. Seems like it could eff the turbine blades up in some sort of scenario… Pure speculation.

Andy, is yours that loud and obvious or is it more mild as my guess would be? (once again, pure speculation…)

Of course I kept the stock unit, so if I ever hear that sound I am immediately putting it back to the stock unit, until I figure out what the hell is going on!

I hope you think the bug eyed STIs are the best. Unless you’re a new age cvt guy.

WRX BOV sounds are typically the most obnoxious because people make them like that. But thats a normal sound. Compressor surge is like a buffeting sound. It’s very odd.

Typically its not loud at all. Considering we have a wee baby turbo, its probably quiet. I can barely hear these spool, so the sound is equally as quiet.

CVTs ☹!
yeah, I figured it’s the people who make them that way! And agreed that it’s an odd sound and just unhealthy for the vehicle overall.

I stay in the middle of the road on WRXs. I appreciate what they can do for sure, but they’re not my gig.

Just curious, have you or anybody seen someone upgrade their turbo on our trucks?

I saw a direct bolt on somewhere and said it was good for 450rwhp (that it could support it, not necessarily generate that without all the supporting cast of parts)

I saw a post where people needed to run their tow tune or take it off altogether, because it seems that when you start approaching 350rwhp and 400rwtq, it becomes a little tough to feather it.

My philosophy is that there’s never too much horsepower and torque, although if it’s not drivable then I take that back!
