So, just regular cops doing regular cop things... Got it...I live in Massachusetts and after 9 11 the state formed a department of homeland security. As part of that activity they retitled all the game wardens to environmental police and moved them under the department of homeland security. As such they now have more authority than any other law enforcement agency in the state. There job description is still the same with the added responsibility of enforcing/investigating environmental pollution cases.
There is a state conservation area near my house that the environmental police have a headquarters building. About 1/2 the officers you see are dressed in the traditional green and tan game warden uniform and are pretty laid back. The other half are a bunch of egotistical idiots. They are dressed head to toe in black, were a military grade ballistic vest, have a side arm on their hip, one on there ankle and a M4 assault rifle on their chest. They will also be carrying enough ammo to fight a small war. These individuals are the ones giving people grief for not having their dog on a leash, stopping you and reading you the riot act over picking up your dogs waste whether they have gone or not. These folks are also out on rural roads playing traffic cop.
Indiana Conservation officers have State wide powers just city, county & state. I had 10 C.O.s in my academy class in 1988Depending on the state, state game wardens and state park officers have the same powers as police/sheriff's.
If it's a national park then they have all the powers of police/sheriff's, and sometimes even more as they can actually conduct a warrantless search of your vehicle. If they find anything amiss, it becomes a federal crime.
Think of a State Park Ranger as the same as a State Police or State Patrol Officer, and a National Park Ranger as a Federal Officer.
When they aren't being Rabbit Rangers lol. Been a while since we all slung job insults at each other. So, just regular cops doing regular cop things... Got it...

Sorry, I believe the internet was created to lecture strangers on topics we shouldn't. ?We've had each other's backs for 35+ years, taken hunting and fishing trips all across the nation plus vacations with our wives. Let alone all of the training and calls we took.
Our bantering is with much love and respect and in private. My 1st choice in LEO was a CO but they slapped a college degree on it when I went to apply, they where and are short handed so they changed all of the DNR discretionary orders to state laws so all cops can enforce them. Im an advance hunter education instructor, advanced STOPS, advanced EVO and advanced Firearms instructor. I've hunted and fished across the nation with several of them, CO, state city and county. We've been to each other's weddings and funerals for one another, carried friends caskets and recovered drowning victims together. Let alone all of the remodeling We've done . We train hard and fight harder, I assure you were good with our friendships...
The attached picture is in my hallway here at home, had one in my office at the S.O. but that ones in my man cave now.
You don't know me or any of them so please don't assume or lecture.
