I have a 2020 fx2 and would like a smother ride, is it just the shocks that makes the suspension a fx2 vs non fx shocks?

Yeah, fx2 gets different struts than the other non-fx package trucks. The best way to get a smoother ride is to replace the fx struts with eibach or bilstein. More offroad focused would be to get the Fox 2.0 kit.
