An estimated $1 million worth of new 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor pickup trucks were stolen from a Dearborn Truck Plant storage lot, a Dearborn city official confirmed to the Free Press.

Ford reported the missing high-performance trucks, which have a base model price of $69,905, on June 10 with multiple calls to police during that weekend, Bilal Baydoun, City of Dearborn spokesman, said late Thursday.

Dearborn police have recovered 13 vehicles over the last week, mostly in Detroit and a couple in Dearborn, he said after speaking with the Dearborn police chief.

The good old days of yanking some wires out from under the dash, making some sparky sparky and then vroom vroom are long gone. Aren't modern vehicles MUCH more difficult to steal these days? Did they simply load them up on a car hauler? Did they somehow spoof the security systems to believe they had valid keys and just had 15 drivers hop in and drive them off the lot?

Anyone have details?

Definitely sounds like an inside job. They could've cloned all the keys and had this set up for a while now. Sucks for all the customers who were waiting for their Raptors.

Looks like they recovered 13 of the stolen Raptors last week.

Police find some of the trucks, stripped and damaged

Dearborn police have recovered 13 vehicles over the last week, mostly in Detroit and a couple in Dearborn, he said. Dearborn is immediately west of Detroit and is home to a large F-150 factory.

"There was evidence of fences being rammed," Baydoun said. "When they (trucks) were recovered, you could see signs of damage and some things were stripped away, tires, that kind of thing. They were in various states of disrepair."

One arrest has been made and the investigation remains open and active, Baydoun said.

One of the local sources said they were able to break into a security shed that contained keys. They also stripped them of parts, including wheels and wiring. Thieves also stole a bunch of GT500 Mustangs from a factory storage lot.

In Illinois Chargers are routinely stolen out of dealerships. There's a gang in Chicago that has a VIN plate making machine; they buy the stolen cars for $2000-$3000, re-VIN them and register them, and then sell them.
