Are aftermarket fuel injector cleaners beneficial for the Ranger? Honestly I have never used them and unaware if they actually work. I already use 93 grade top tier fuel hoping it helps with any carbon deposit buildup but just wondering if injector cleaner is really necessary and at what intervals to add it if so.

I am of the understanding that there are enough detergents in top tier fuels to not need any additional additives. Most major brands advertise that their fuel helps prevent buildup and keep injectors clean. I don't have a high regard for injector cleaners you get at auto parts store. I just don't see how a 4 - 6 ounce added to 19 gallons of gas will make any difference.

Quality gas has additives in it that do this for you. Cheap no name gas will eventually cause issues. You get what you pay for really

Put 143K miles on my 08 GTI. Not once did I run any after market fuel injector cleaner in it. Got 28/36 mpg on it new and got 26/35 at 143K when I traded it. I only used premium in it and always filled up at name brand stations. Never had an issue with fuel delivery on that car. I did run Seafoam on the intake valves every 20K to keep them clean but that was misting it in the intake with the engine running then a 20 min soak. Ran a borescope down at 60K and again at 120K and the valves while dirty were not that bad overall.

The biggest difference with the GTI and the Ranger is the Ranger has an OEM oil/air separator on the PCV system where the GTI had none. Chances are the valve build up issue common in GDI engines won't be as bad for the 2.3 Eco as others out there.

Put good gas in your tank and nothing else. Neither the Ranger owner’s or service manual recommends injector cleaners. Dealers will, but only to make up the loss review of not being able to do annual tune ups.

And save some money and use 87 octane gas, again like the manual says. Higher octane needed in adverse conditions, when towing or carrying a heavy load but not under normal driving conditions. Again, RTFM.

if you are going to use one stick with the ones that have been around a long time like seafoam, berrymans b12 chemtool, lucas, power service. i dont use additives unless i have a reason. if i get fuel some place and the truck seems to not like it then i will put in some gas treatments to band aid the poor fuel. when i know im not going to be driving a car for a couple weeks or more i pu tin sta-bil. i dont think a quality additive would hurt anything. project farm on you tube has done extensive testing on sea foam and its good stuff. however, i think it benefits older higher mileage engines much more so than a relatively new one like what we have in our rangers.
