Any advice appreciated...

My 2021 Wildtrak developed an o/s front wheel speed sensor fault a few weeks ago. I can't recall the exact wording of the fault code from FORScan but I bought a non-genuine Ford replacement part and fitted it. Fault seemed to be cured but not long later it re-occurred. It is not always present. For instance I drove 10 miles (about 30 mins) before it triggered a couple of days ago. Today I started the car and drove it 5 miles to MOT (UK road-worthiness test) and no fault. The fault occurred during the mot test so it failed.

When I got home I connected the FORScan again and get error on left front sensor- Circuit Short To Ground Or Open.

Should I try a genuine Ford part instead?

Could it be an issue with the encoder? Is it possible to clean the encoder without removing the drive shafts?

Thanks 😊

Any time I have speed sensor issues I do 2 things: 1) read the actual sensor battery voltage with my AUTEL tpms reader/programer 2) verify the actual tire air pressure. Probably do #2 first. I currently have a bad tpms battery on my Subaru left front

Check the wiring to the sensor for damage. I would then get the genuine Ford replacement sensor.

As stated above check connector for bad contacts and wire harness for damage, non oem sensors have been noted as problematic as well (cheaply made and nonstandard specs)
Plus - pull the sensor and look into the hole and check the encoder ring for any debris or damage on it while rotating the rotor (hub) the encoder is incorporated into the hub bearing - so a bad bearing may also induce your issues.
