I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm confused by some of the HP ratings I'm seeing in different threads. I see a lot of dyno ratings talking about HP at the wheels. Is HP at the wheels the same as HP at the crank? What is the Ford rated HP of 270 taken at? The Ford Performance tune says it adds 45HP, is that at the wheels? So after the tune, your HP goes from 270 to 315? True?
Thanks

HP Ratings from the manufacturer are almost ALWAYS at the crank. Generally speaking, you lose 10-15% at the wheels due to the drivetrain. The values you see people posting are at the wheels (which is all you can measure on a car dyno), which obviously will be lower.

Has the following quote which sums it up well:

“The stock Ranger is equipped with a 2.3 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, rated at 270 horsepower at the crank. In this dyno video on Hennessey's YouTube channel, the base truck is good for 243 wheel horsepower and 267 lb/ft of torque.
