This exactly why my cellular modem is disabled... read the entire patent by following the link. You'll find it quite enlightening. Many of their methods are quite invasive.

Ford Patent - IN-VEHICLE ADVERTISEMENT PRESENTATION SYSTEMS AND METHODS

Feb 23, 2023 - Ford

In-vehicle advertisement presentation systems and methods are disclosed herein. An example method includes determining vehicle information for a trip, the vehicle information including any one or more of a current vehicle location, a vehicle speed, a drive mode, and/or traffic information, determining user information, the user information including any one or more of a route prediction for the trip, a speed prediction for the trip, and/or a destination, determining user preferences for advertisements from any one or more of audio signals within the vehicle and/or historical user data, selecting a number of the advertisements to present to the user during the trip, and providing the advertisements to the user during the trip through a human-machine interface (HMI) of the vehicle.

BACKGROUND
Advertisements can be presented to users in their vehicles through various means. For example, some advertisements can be presented visually and/or auditorily using an in-vehicle infotainment system or other similar human-machine interfaces (HMI). Advertisements can be presented through voice or audio systems in the vehicle. A user's preferences for advertisements can also be influenced by driving conditions or other contexts.

How do you disable the modem?
Pull fuse 8/9 in the panel by your left knee, I also turned off Telematics using ForScan. and just to be sure I unplugged the cellular modem in the passenger footwell. It is easily accessible by looking up from the floor. I didn't even need to go through the glove box to access it.

As a happy byproduct, my battery holds a charge longer. I think the modem was calling home to "momma" each evening. Dark power drain is now on par with my 2005 Ford Ranger.

Mine talks to me now via Waze. I have it set to use a female British voice.

In my world, "my" British lady is 40ish, blonde, slender, boobalicious :like: with a great personality. But the Warden insists that the Brit is 70+, chain smoker, 300 pounds and missing half her teeth. :surprised:

Sigh. The things a man has to endure.

I may have to look into that. Any other side effects to the truck afterwards?

I get ads in my truck all the time, through the radio. But when will 'they' draw the line on driver distractions. You'll get a ticket for talking or texting with phone in hand. Now they want to display ads on the infotainment screen.
But seriously, I think this is just one of those patents they do before anybody else gets the idea,
so that they'll get the royalties and rights to it, even though they have no intentions of doing it.

I like it ! What's one more voice in my head? Maybe this one will be useful ? Why wouldn't it be ? Who's asking the questions here ? Has it already started? HMI ?

I have had no side effects. The truck runs exactly the same. I do see a DTC telling me the system can communicate with the modem. But there are no lights or visual warnings.

Obviously any system that utilized the cellular modem will no longer function. But I do not use FordPass.

The difference is you can turn them off. You chose to listen. If you read the patent, the system monitors your discussions and body reactions to the ads, such as how tightly you grasp the steering wheel when an ad plays to determine the effectiveness of the ad. They will then use this to learn. Read the patent.

I can imagine a point at which we get true autopilot and the manufacturers decide to make the windshield play ads while it's on. Since you don't need it and all. Then they'll say "Hey let's make it on all the windows so they can't look away." o_O

Going this autopilot route cedes all control and decision making to the centralized system controlling the car. Hence, you can never be sure where your destination will be or be able to alter it. You are no longer the pilot of your auto.
