Hey, new owner please inform me. Do you have to pay for FordPass? When I asked the head salesman he was very evesave, something about 90 days. Will I get a request in mail? Is it tied to Sirius XM?
Your salesman is an idiot fordpass and all its features are free the wifi hotspot is not but using fordpass and the remote start lock etc are free always (unless ford pulls a toyota/bmw in the future)

I don't need the Oil life monitor because I change every 5000 regardless of it's reading. I'm thinking the tire pressure monitor might be a benefit if you are on the road and unknowing start losing pressure that comes to a point of safety. In my case, I don't use the remote start because at home the truck is always parked in the garage and would fill up with monoxide quickly. It is risky in our state to start a vehicle remotely in a parking lot...we consistently run in the top tier level of the highest number auto thefts! :explode:
I am not sure if you know how the remote start works, the vehicle must be locked and remains so until you come up with the key and it will not function or drive in any way until (having the key in the truck or for ppl with the blade in the ignition and hitting the button or turning the key it is no more dangerous or risky than leaving it "off" also you have individual tpms on your instrument display if there is a problem it will tell you there much more quickly and set off the low pressure alert fordpass would only be useful for the tire pressure as a way to make sure your truck is squared away from afar

I'll play devil's advocate on this one. Currently the way most manufacturers do things is that they tie up all kinds of useful features into "packages" that are only available on particular "trim levels". If you want, e.g., a heated seat on a ranger you need to pay something like $8k to move from an XL to a Lariat. What if you think you might want heated seats, shell out the $8k, and find out it's a useless feature you'll never use? Well, you're just screwed. What BMW is doing is letting you try out the heated seats to see if you like them before you shell out big money, or only pay for them once a year when you take your annual trip to Siberia, or pay something like $500 to permanently add them to a car that didn't come with them when you bought it. Is that really worse than how Ford is currently doing it? Yeah, the subscription/activation model is susceptible to abuse, but I'd have a lot more sympathy with the haters IF THE SYSTEM WE HAVE NOW DIDN'T ALREADY SUCK. The manufacturers are going to get their margin one way or another. If I could have the option to give them their margin just on stuff I want, without getting a bunch of useless crap I don't want that's only there to justify charging more for a particular trim level (ambient lighting!), I'd take that option. A lot of the stuff I wanted on the ranger (heated seats/mirrors, auto wipers, adaptive cruise, etc) were tied up in appearance stuff I specifically did not want (big wheels, leather seats, ambient lighting, etc). Sometimes features are tied up in combinations I will flat out refuse to buy (four door short bed truck, sunroof) so I just don't have any option to get the feature I want without compromising on something I refuse to compromise on. Will it be possible in the future to decouple those things so I end up paying approximately the same amount but get exactly the truck I want by utilizing remote activation functionality? Who knows--but I think it's ridiculous to argue that is a terrible possible future, and that the crap choices the manufactures currently give us is a hill worth dying on to preserve.
Yeah no definitely not the same in any way shape or form, its not like they are transcending trim levels and cutting the costs or prices, the subscription is a supplement to the cost of it it is pure revenue they did not reduce price they did not make it so that you can hop around and not have to get packages anymore they just pulled an ea and kept the price the same and gave you less and less then said oh you can buy the use of the feature for an easy monthly subscription. There is no defense for this it is simply a cash grab.

You do know there's an option to just buy it one-time without a subscription, right? It literally does add an alternative that did not previously exist.

BMW owners outraged over $18-a-month charge to use heated seats (nypost.com) yeah nope not that simple you are still paying for the packages and hardware as I said its just a cash grab.
It is as simple as that, but you need to read past the headline. " Motorists can also pony up roughly $180 for a one-year heated seats subscription, $300 for a three-year subscription or $415 for “unlimited access.” " You can pay a flat rate and get the feature, you don't need to pay a recurring subscription fee. (It's up to you to decide which is better for you.) Is $415 too much for a heated steering wheel on a BMW? I dunno. I do know that you don't buy a BMW because you're trying to save money. Yeah, you're possibly getting hardware you don't use, and yeah, the price to get access to the feature is vastly higher than what it costs the manufacturer to provide it...but that's pretty much ALREADY THE CASE WITH EVERY OPTION IN THE CURRENT MODEL. And, with this model, if you only want to use the heated steering wheel one time, you pay $18 rather than whatever the "winter comfort package" would have cost. It is not the case that people who previously paid $2k (or whatever) for the "winter comfort package" now suddenly have to pay a monthly fee on top of that (even if the headlines really want you to believe that so you get outraged and drive up page views).

I just don't get the outrage. People are screaming "OH NOES, CARS MIGHT COST MORE IN TEH FUTURE!!!!!" News flash: cars will cost more in the future, regardless of whether some features are software controlled. This is possibly a way to tailor what you get out of the money you give the manufacturer in order to better meet your particular needs. Or not. We don't know how it will shake out. But to act like this is somehow a dramatically different way for the manufacturers to squeeze money out of purchasers is (as I said in my first post) ridiculous.

I remember posting an article about this last year, now it looks like more are doing this. It's bad enough we have to deal with slimy dealers adding huge markups now these manufacturers are going to hit us too. What's next a monthly subscription to actually be able to drive your vehicle? :curse:
That's already here thanks to the DMV and our politicians.

You may lose TPMS on your phone, but not on your info display.
Right! The Oil life, fuel level and odometer readings will also remain available from the instrument panel...I liked the convenience of also being able to check these from the App but can live without it... :)

No, it's by the year and you get a free sticker to put on your tags. :)
Ahh, we have that too along with a nice fat vehicle tax. If you don't trade anything (trade ins you pay the difference between the two) in it's even higher. When I bought my Jeep it was $3,200 just for the vehicle tax! :curse:

If I remember, sales tax on my truck was around $2400. Registration is $40 - 45 for a 4 year tag, driver's license is $60 for 4 years, inspections, $20 for 2 years. Trailers you have the option to pay around $200 for lifetime tags.
