What is the consensus on Ford Parts Giant? Has anyone had positive or negative experiences getting parts through them?
My AC belt slipped off the other day. When I popped the hood to see what the compressor was doing, I found the fairly long AC belt wrapped up on the water pump pulley, luckily perhaps. My employer has a commercial account with the local dealership, Sunland Ford. They do not come up on Ford.com for some reason to get an idea of part availability or costs. So I used Ford Parts Giant (FPG) to get an idea of things and part numbers to go in with. I wanted a new belt and tensioner for starters. Sunland's cost was 50 dollars more than FPG. Including the commercial account discount of 15% off on parts and no taxes. Not too bad, thinking maybe FPG would have a shipping cost and then there would be CA state tax. BUT they said my tensioner and belt would be in the next day and the next day I was told it's coming from a different warehouse and will be here tomorrow. It's tomorrow and I'm thinking about going in, not touching the parts, and returning them on the spot at pickup to go through FPG.
If we ever need to remove our PCV hose, AllData is saying that hose is a cut-remove-and-replace part. $23.94 @ FPG, Part No.: KB3Z-6758-A (Tube SAY). Wanting to Walnut Blast my Intake valves, AllData is saying remove and discard the EGR Tube and gasket Part No.: LB5Z-9E469-B (Tube EGR Valve) $103.69 @ FPG. Throwing in gaskets for the Intake Manifold and Throttle Body, (which may or may not be needed) and the EGR gasket the cart subtotal is $300, including the AC Belt and Tensioner. I could get all these items at FPG for just $100 (plus shipping and taxes) more than the belt and tensionor alone at Sunland. The EGR alone is $103.
If I was just after the belt and tensioner, it wouldn't be a big deal, but wanting to have these other parts on hand is very tempting to go through FPG. So far my AC belt has stayed in place for the last 3-4 days since I put it back on. It does seem like the tensioner has a squeal under load. I'm uncomfortable with it, yet it doesn't seem to be an emergency where I have to accept the parts I ordered.
