Now this seems like a pretty good concept. I know that radiant in floor heating works great and this should make the cars better climate controlled for heat while using a little less energy. I had installed this in my baths back east and it made a huge different on cold days having the radiant heat in the floors. I know others who have whole house radiant heat and swear by it. Hopefully this works out and it looks like Ford is at least trying to address some of these EV battery shortcomings with this.

Now, engineers have found that utilizing heating surfaces in Ford EV models – such as mats and door panels, rather than traditional HVAC systems – could help extend range, too.
This idea stemmed from a mission to seek out ways to improve the efficiency and range of Ford EV models, which is a hot button topic in today’s world. As many are already aware, running the air conditioning or heat in an EV can result in significant range loss, which is precisely why Ford previously recommended that owners try and utilize things like heated seats and steering wheels in the winter when possible, rather than running the heater.

Both of these methods require some sort of battery power, but Blue Oval engineers discovered that with heating surfaces, the energy consumption resulting from heating the cabin could be reduced by 13 percent compared to a standard HVAC system – and could extend EV range by around five percent, adding up to a few hundred miles per year.

You think having just a deformed heater box is bad. Ford's EV department said "hold my beer, we're gonna deform the steering wheel and every interior panel!"
?You got me on that one! Now excuse me while I clean my laptop screen.?

I put radiant heat floors in a bathroom about a year ago and they're wonderful. AFAIK, they're not exactly compatible with hardwood flooring, so doing it whole home would involve different floors (and I really like hardwood!).

in my Ranger now, I tend to lean on my heated seats when it's cold more than the HVAC, because the seats get warm and comfy more quickly even so.

Tesla warms the interior with a heat pump, Farley probably begged Elon to license it and got turned down, so to save face engineers came up with radiant heating and yes if CEO Farley thinks warranty costs are bad now........

Actually you can use radiant heat under hardwood floors. But not all radiant works best with it like the mat type. I used the electric mat in my baths even though I had a boiler. It was cheaper and easier to DYI then have to hire someone to do it off the boiler. I had mine on a timer so it went off every morning and shut down an hour later once I left.

This is the system I have. Not really hardwood friendly. It's kinda specific to tile installations.

That's similar to the ones I put in my baths. I forgot which company I used but you go on their site and use a pre done layout and add your dimensions to it. Then they figure out the size you'll need and provide you with the design and how to lay it out. I was doing a full bath remodel so it was super easy to do and run the wiring to the wall.
