yes the Ranger is "detuned" becaese IT IS A TRUCK NOT A SPORTS CAR!!!!!

my god man. This isn't rocket surgery. A truck is not a sports car. I dont know how to make it more simple than that.
If you want a sports car - buy a sports car.
If you want a truck - buy a truck.

one thing you cant do is buy a freakin truck and bitch that its not a sports car.

You are taking this too serious!

This is a discussion about Ford and VW. What working together could bring. I simply offered what each could benefit. I compared the transmission because the 10 speed is used in the Mustang GT. A 400+ hp sports car. I guess sports car, maybe only muscle car. That 10 speed is in my Ranger thus the comparison with with other cars using same 10 speed. If the Mustang GT can only shift as well as my Ranger then that is sad for Mustang.

Bitching, no, I like my truck.
Otherwise I would not have purchased. But I can compare driving characteristics and mechanics. PS. Still have the GTI so I have best of both worlds. Each is extreme. One has low profile tires and rides on rails. The other has floaty tires and can drive over the rails.

Sports car trucks
Based on performance there are a few.
Ford Lightning
Current Raptors.
NASCAR Racing trucks. I think these handle better than most sports cars.

PS. Still drives like most automatics with manual shift. Shift, 1 second and 500hp later it shifts. Mustang Owners, is this how the 10 speed shifts in those cars?
Serious question. Guess I will ask dealer if I can test drive to compare.

A couple of corrections...
It is a SINGLE manual gearbox with TWO Clutches.
Ford has already offered this technology in the US, and the American Buyer rejected it.

The stick buttons do the same thing paddles do on other automatic transmissions.
Thanks for correction.
Physically both in same housing. I was going from the mechanical operation talked about in link below.

Yes the stick buttons work like paddles as it only takes a switch, but paddles are so much easier to use while driving. Why likely used in Raptor, plus titanium paddles. Very nice.

Detail video on DSG if any interest.

Point taken, but I really don't think it is fair to compare sports cars to a body on frame truck. For a truck, I am amazed by what it can do.
Agree. My GTI and Ranger are opposites ends. There is 1,000lbs difference between them. I am really just comparing Transmission. One being the 10 speed flag ship of Ford.
Also used in the Ford Mustang GT also. I have tested many so called auto stick cars and most are like driving a traditional auto just that I am starting the shift, but the car still shifts like an old auto, regarding speed. I thought the new 10 speed would be faster than it is. A TCU tune would likely help but no desire to tune early with warranty and new truck.

We may never agree but I will just share some info on the DSG transmission. An interesting mechanical device. The stick is multi function and an interacting design. If you ever test drive make sure you are in sport mode and push the car to see how the DSG works. It adjusts to how you drive. If not in a hurry it does not shift fast. In a rush, it picks up the speed.

Maybe I'm just not used to firm/quick shifts, but in sport mode, my truck has pretty snappy shifts - it will snap your neck a bit. Again, not a sports car, but amazing for a truck I think. In regular mode, I can hardly tell when it shifts most of the time.

I would assume that the 10 speed programming is quite different between the Mustang and the F-150 and Ranger.

Interesting article, but that is just an opinion. I can see both sides of the argument - it comes down to what you feel is the "best" way to implement it. It is kind of like "styling" - what looks good to one person looks terrible to someone else.

I'm just happy that when I stomp on the gas, my truck responds well and it doesn't hunt for gears. It was one of the things I was concerned about (10 speeds? Really?) - I thought it would always be shifting and it would be rather annoying. But I have been pleasantly surprised - it does a lot of shifting, yes, but most of the time you don't even know it. And it will shift up or down skipping gears as needed (those you can usually feel a bit). I'm VERY happy with how the transmission functions.

Ford once advertised the Ranger as a Sports car with a big trunk.
That was 1992, My 4.0L 5SPD manual 2WD regular cab short box almost really was a sports car... with a couple of suspension mods and a set of good street tires.:sunglasses::rockon:

I like my new Ranger and it handles well, but it is still better suited to towing a sports car on a trailer, than to chasing one around the track at Road America!:like::clap:

Still, it is the most competent handling daily driver pickup on the market today.
